| Under powering steering servo
I just upgraded my crawler to a savox SC-1258TG. Before I upgraded I was having issues turning the wheels when in tight spots, so I upgraded. I still have this issue with the savox, but I am noticing my led lights are dimming when I am in those tight spots. Will a upgraded battery solve this?

Sounds like you need an external BEC. What ESC do you have?

| Re: Under powering steering servo Ouch.... BEC Output: 1A/5V (Linear Mode) You really want about 3A output for a decent servo, the HobbyWing 1080 WP ESC is very popular because it puts out that much and is only a $40 speed controller. It's also programmable (comes with a programming box) and waterproof. Could cut your losses and just upgrade the ESC and not need a BEC. https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/hwi30112750.htm |

I would rather just upgrade the esc than add something. Thank you for the recommendation. Quote:

Good idea - I've got the HW1080 in a TRX-4 and an Ascender, excellent ESC - it's extremely popular in the rock-crawling world. That HW1625 you have is meant for smaller than 1/10th-scale RCs, such as 1/16th or 1/18th scale. Nothing wrong with it for what it is, just going to struggle being used for larger applications. |

Technically it is a 1/12 scale I have. Quote:

The HW1080 is still the one I'd go for, if you are having any servo brown-out issues with your current ESC.

On the 1080 WP ESC should I get a 60 amp version or 80 amp version. I found the 80 amp version for less than the 60 amp.

https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/prod...nt=26223842568 There is a HW QUICRUN 1060, totally different ESC: https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/prod...iant=753399705 Either one would work for a typical 1/12th crawler, but the 1080 is completely programmable with an easy to use (and included) programming box and is more powerful - a better purchase in my opinion, as you can move it to a bigger and heavier crawler someday. | |

I just ordered the 1080 ESC, should be just what I need. Unfortunately I probably ordered that Savox Servo for no reason. Well at least I got spares.

It's ALWAYS handy to have a spare servo - they are the one electronic part that will give out with no warning, right when you've arrived at the trailhead for a day of rock crawling! Bring the spare with you whenever you go... |
