I've got a stock jeep unlimited CRC. Will a 3s 5500 50c battery work ok? Or will it burn up the motor?

I would suggest smaller batteries just because the heavy 5500mah will make the think tip over easier. 2 2200mAh and carry one in your pocket. The run time is still over an hour probably. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

It is fine with an external BEC.

Thanks for the info guys...if I upgrade my ESC, would that be a better option? And is the stock 35t motor a good trail/crawler motor or should I upgrade that?

If you like your stock wheelspeed then get an equivalent turn motor. The Holmes website (look for the recommended motors page) and many threads in the forum can guide you to a decision point. What these guys above me said is on point... and I’d take the money spent on a BEC and upgrade your motor to a 35T Expert, with my sense that the internal BEC in a 1080 is sufficient. But these are all debatable finer points. You can’t go wrong with the ideas provided and some fun research of your own. You’ll be soldering in no time at all ; ) Good luck, Linc |

Just a side point. I have had 0 issues with the stock electronics in My Honcho. They have lived on 3s since the day I got it, and have run literally all day on a couple occasions, literally 18 miles of trail running, in one instance, and typically 3-5 hours at a time in other instances. This is the truck I hand the controller over to anyone who wants to try it. So she gets used and abused, and the only part I have replaced is the servo horn. It stripped out last summer. |

I may be missing it, but I cant find info for lights...the stock crc has headlights and tail lights. Doesnt esc control flow to the lights?

You will need to splice a power plug into the new ESC then look at the voltage the light can tolerate. If they take 3s, the it's good. If they don't then you need to use a BEC to regulate the output. You can also get light controllers from HeyOK and have on/off on your Radio Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk | |

The stock motors don't have much torque. This me and they will take more throttle to climb over say a 3in tall ledge. Once the front tire gets to the top of the ledge that extra throttle means you will probably launch forward. This lurching looks pretty jerky and I don't like it. You can reduce it by volting up and gearing down. Or by installing a motor with more torque. Such as hand wound motors or larger motors. Or you can do both. I have setup crawlers with low enough gearing to have very smooth crawling, but you lose quite a bit of high speed before I find it acceptable. If you don't care about high speed that is an option. I buy faster brushed motors like a 27t 540 or a 21t 550 ones in the 2200kv range. That's more speed/power to gear down with and convert to torque. Thanks for the options and input guys. I'm looking at getting a trailmaster 550 21t with a hobby wing 1080 esc. My truck came with lights so I'm looking at how to hook up lights with this set up....doesnt seem too difficult.
