Default Pinion?

what size pinion should I run on a vs4-10 pro ,crawlmaster sport 13t, hw 1080 on 3s ?
I put in the stock 14t but the top end is really fast. The only other pinion I have is an 11t

Thanks Jim

The 11t will slow it down so give it a try and see what you think.

Yeah, I get ya. I figured out pretty quickly that every rig is different though. Different motors, different esc's, different pinions, different gear ratio's, portals or not, even down to the driver's preference. You'd basically need to find someone with your exact setup to give you an actual opinion and even then it might still be too fast or slow for you.

I'm using a 13t/56t 3 gear transmission on 3S with Crawlmaster Sport 540 16T. I'm happy with the speed. I may try the 13T next time though just to see the difference. 20T would be too slow for my taste.

I have a VS4-10 Pro too, and I just swapped the pinion from its stock 15T to a 11T pinion for similar reasons.

I am running a 1900 kV Castle Slate motor with a CC Mamba X, on a 4-S battery. I felt it was a little too fast, in that the truck didn't behave remotely "scale." The thing would positively explode off the line, and pulling full throttle was just crazy. In addition, the drag brake (in crawler mode) was just a tiny bit too weak to keep the truck motionless on a (ridiculously) steep hill.

In a pleasant surprise, I immediately felt that the new pinion (a nicely-made RRP 1711 "Absolute" hardened) meshed better with the stock plastic spur gear.

The pinion change resulted in a noticeable drop in top speed (11/15=0.733x relative speed), to the point that full throttle is now usable. I feel it behaves more "scale" now, and it's easier to control.

The change also gave it enough extra hill holding strength that it's now motionless at insane angles.

The increase in torque is definitely noticeable too. It feels so authoritative. Not that it lacked for torque originally.

I prefer it!

I ended up using the 13t, it suits my driving style, The 15t was to fast and the 11t was to slow ( not enough wheel speed) so the 13t was just right for me.
