Default traxxas slash 4x4 spool or no spool?

i have a slash 4x4 and plan on making it into a foff...do i need a spool in both? just the front? just the rear? or no spool at all..how will controlling it be for just sand with both diffs locked? and how would it do on loose dirt both diffs locked? to people who are running the slash for foff what do you do? ive also heard of just using thick oil... i am completly new to foff (not to crawling) so feel free to treat me like an idiot.

i dont know about the slash, but i run all my diffs locked in my foffer. climbing steep dunes and dirt the front does a lot of the work as i have overdrive gears in the front diff (AX10 axles). it needs to be locked as i find the unlocked diff drops power to the wheel that needs it most.

with the rear underdriven it turns quickly anyway as the front pulls it around.

hope it helps

my friend locked his mini 4x4 slash diffs and it didnt steer for crap after that, unlocked the front and it was fine. being independednt suspension its going to act different rather then a solid axled rig. but some may more then others. good luck

You should make a 3rd thread about a Slash spool. NOT!

Since the slash diff's are fluid filled, Id just put some heavy fluid in them. Maybe 100k in both diffs to see how that worked. Then you can change it from there...

When I was building mine, I put a spool in the rear. You don't want to do the front unless you're doing strictly straight line drag racing.

If you lock both diffs in a slash and run a torquey brushless system, you'll find ALL the weak points in the driveline VERY quickly.

I have gone through three rear driveshafts since locking the rear in December. Normally I run all year without breaking one. Part of that may be that I tend to bash harder in the winter, but I'm sure the locked rear adds stress.

I don't suppose summit axles would fit

No, but I'm hoping XO-1 hubs and axles will fit Slash 4x4 arms and diff outputs.

Spools and plastic Traxxas axleshafts don't mix. Either get MIP's front and rear to go with the spools, or put 100-150K oil in the stockers so the plastic shafts will survive. You don't really need the spools at higher speeds and they numb the steering.

I personally think you would want something heavier than 100k. Say 250-500k if you don't want it locked up.

if you had a set up like the venom creeper to un lock and lock it ,due to a locked diff the steering is not as responsive but it dose give you alot less power loss
