So after checking out all the cool builds here i decided to throw a FoFF together and see what its all about. I didnt want to spend a pile of $$$ so i recycled a old rig i didnt use much. Its not pretty nor do i have much time into it, so far the only things ive bought for this project are the wheels/tires(used) the rear links, and the velineon system($50). Parts are as follows: TCS eclipse chassis MLST shocks(?) ax10 axles with overdrive front gears/stock rear and S3R lockers F/R, alu C's/knucks/lockouts ax10 trans with S3R case and robinson gears, 80/20 gearing for now Hitec 5955 servo with BTA setup traxxas velineon brushless 3s lipo proline beadlocks and panther paddles Tried it out for the first time today in the only sand quarry i know of locally. The sand is very coarse and it was saturated from non stop rain, but it was hovering around freezing temp today so the sand was stiff and lumpy. I found a couple things that i need to fix after 1 pack. First i need to install MIP driveshafts. Second, i need to make a shield to keep sand out of the ring/pinion. Shredded the spur after 1 pack. I also need to swap to 32p gears. The last thing i would like to try is staggered front paddles, the straight across paddles up front dont allow alot of directional control. All in all i was happy with it and cant wait to get it out again, works pretty good for a pile of outdated junk |

I like it! I have been looking at a pile of parts much like the ones you have on yours. I too have an Eclipse and a Velineon system, just waiting for the spare time to throw them together.

Thanks for the kind words This thing has a 12.5" WB but on that climb in the pic (which is far steeper in person) the truck picks up the front tires and wheelies quite a bit of the hill. Itll climb it but id like to get all 4 staying on the ground for more control. Im guessing thats why alot of you run 13"+ WB. Ill probably play with the rear link geometry some more. Eventually id like to build a chassis just for this truck to get a wide flat skid and a place for a big battery so i have run times longer then 20 mins per pack |

small update: i was bored after working on my new-to-me TF2 rebuild so i thought i would fix the few issues on the ghetto foff. Started out with switching to 32p gears, went 56/12 because the new 15t pinion pulled the threads out of itself on install will be changing this possibly this weekend. Also got the MIP driveshafts installed and made a blast shield to keep junk out of the spur/motor. Took it for a rip in the snow and it was fun but too slow with the 12t pinion. I hope the motor can pull 56/15 but im fairly confident |
