Default HRDROKN's R1 build...

Thanks to all the informative threads on the R1 crawler! And thanks to BasuraBlanco for bringing Yellow Jacket (Axial Wraith) over so I could give her a test run!

And so the next phase begins.....

and a little teaser for you full scale freaks!

Thanks for the shout out. Have you decided on how you are going to power your R1? I know you have that HH 55t handwound lying around. New electronics or are you going to scavenge what you have in the creeper?

Thinking that I will just get some new electrics... that way I can run the Creeper also! Is that so wrong....

Looks like you're starting with a lot of good upgrades. Did you upgrade your bearings straight off? I would highly recommend if you haven't as you'll be pulling it apart soon if you don't. By the way, for crawling, the bushings from Traxxas in substitution for the 850 bearings are excellent.

I seriously looked at that issue and I decided to give the stock ones a try after I let them soak in EWL... just curious as whether this is a lube problem or quality issue. If that doesnt work out then maybe some ABEC5's from VBX are in the future.

i just built a r1 also and have read a lot of complaints about the axles binding and the bearings going to hell. i took the time and cleaned all edges of my gears and also soaked my bearings. i have run my r1 not a lot but have used it with no problems at all. i think if you take your time in assembly all these quirks can be prevented!

also i think your going to like the r1 much more than the wraith, i've built 3 wraiths and have gotten my r1 to perform better than any wraith. shock location is key, i have as much articulation as any crawler now! i'm new here but not on rcu. i go as barney 5...

Just got my stealth chassis in from CKRC.... nice chassis! But as I have discovered (with a little help from my friend), this chassis is not configured very well for the R1 The shock mounting selection on the stealth chassis sets the rig too tall... and thats with the shocks set in droop. So I will be drilling some new mounting holes and running zero's or sparks in place of the transition shocks.

Heck... as I mentioned in another post, I think the stealth chassis fits the creeper better!

I went ahead and ordered some ABEC5 bearings from VBX.... they were IMO worse than the stock bearings!

OK....

Got busy fixing the stealth chassis to fit the R1... after some measurements in droop, full stuff and articulated, I came up with a target set of holes for the upper shock mounts. This new set of holes will work for shocks in the 100-105mm eye to eye range.

And to cut to the results.... here is BasuraBlanco's R1 almost complete!

Very happy with these results!!!

Mine was a quality issue. The shields came off almost immediately and bearings died shortly after. Used quality lubrication, etc.

As a comp spec rig she is a bit short in the wheelbase department... so I will look into getting another .250" per end after we get her shook down a bit.

Todays progress....

Looking good, like the green accents. Since I'm still waiting on electronics, I decided to fab up some body panels using Styrene and 1/10th scale diamond plate, check it out:

they also hinge open using 3/8" cable clamps.

just need to paint them black. I made up an extra set if you want them, let me know.
