Default R1 shocks = horrible...

I have built many shocks and never have I had a set that were such a pita. First one I tried to put together = cross threaded lower portion. Second one I tried to put together = cross threaded lower portion. No matter how careful I am these ****ing things still cross thread.

At least they provide a little 1 1/2" long plastic wrench......

Cheap Chinese plastic...

Oh well, so they aren't the best. I know.... But i had no issues assembling them. I also did not use that cheap plastic wrench thingie. But the Transition shocks could be worse. They do what they must do and mine don't leak (yet).

I haven't had a problem with mine, I threw them on a scx10 and they're doing their job

Same here, maybe a little leaky once th o-rings wear out down the road but if inverted and using green slime i think they work just fine in droop. Also depends on weight of your rig as well.

Yeah, mine leaked no matter what I did. Although slow, it was annoying. I just flipped them... Problem solved... With the added bonus of weight down low

They are kind of a pain to assemble and I don't use that crappy plastic wrench they give you, but I have 3 sets of them 2 set up in sprung and 1 in droop for my comp rigs and have zero problems. No leaks and all of them installed upside down. Why you ask? In theory they add weight down low for that low center of gravity and it helps prevent leaks. Been lucky so far. Will I buy them again? You bet, great performing shocks for crawling.

Seemed the one that did seal eventually lost it's oil. Think I'll give the upside down trick a shot. I used a metal wrench myself as well.

Give it a shot, being that you are already experiencing some leakage, by flipping it upside down will help a little and not loose too much fluid. Are you running your shocks in droop or sprung application? If it's not too aggravating I would disassemble the shocks that leak and use Teflon tape or tube applicator and cover the shock cap thread. You may need to invest in some green slime for the O-rings the next time around, if your shocks are old and worn, you can go to the local hardware store and pick up a set of O-rings for cheap and just rebuild them all and use the green slime. Make sure your shock caps are tight, not snug. The first set I built all leaked, but once I tightened the shock caps more it stopped. I was happy! They are great performing shocks for the money and application. Good luck..

I'm running mine in spring. I was actually thinking of getting some plumbing tape and putting a single very tight thin wrap around the threads.

They are kind of a PITA to build. Use Noleen SF-3 (Associate's Green Slime OEM) grease on the o-rings and teflon tape and they shouldn't leak.
