Default changing the wheelbase aka The SawbackBlazer

im looking for advice for changing the wheelbase

the proline blazer body i have for it is a bit shorter on the wheelbase , i could line up the rear and cut the front or vice versa ,

this is how it looks at the moment

the red lines indicate where i will cut the molder bumper of. one way of doing it i could think of is using square sdi arches to hide the cuts, but am not sure.

this is my first leaf based truck so i am not that familiar with them ,any help on this issue is appreciated .

You could move the shackle mounts towards the center of the truck to shorten it a bit, you would have to drill new holes in the chassis. Or you could trim a bit of the front or rear fenders out and put some low profile flares on to hide the cut

I wonder if you could flip the front hangers around, if you would gain anything. what I mean is put the solid perch on the front and the shackle on the rear of the front axle. that might get you the 5 or 6 mm you need.

ill try that tomorrow but im not sure it can be done without drilling and cutting.

Have you considered adding fender flares? Those wheels and tires will never tuck into the molded wheel wells, so you'll either have to use smaller ones, jack up the body or cut them bigger. Fender flares will hide whatever cuts you make and they look good, in my opinion.....and you won't have to change the wheelbase.

The price is a bit steep on those big boss flares, maybe the sdi squares would be a better option. The flares are an option but I'm not really sure yet

Looks great. With the body dropped down a tad some 1.5's would look really good. Might cripple it a bit though. I been stalking the sawback forum, as I really think this will be my next purchase. I was torn between this and the SCX platform. I'm really digging all these sawback builds though, and the body you are using is high on my want-list for a scale build.

If you really want to change the wheelbase you can build a set of leafs with pullcord spring and drill the axle mount holes slighlty off center to get the desired wheelbase

easier way would just be to move the shackle mounting points, drill a few holes and youre done.

if you look at my last pic i already did that on the front , it will have to be enough since the frame is not straight and symmetrical and in the rear it starts to curve outwards a bit earlier than on the front .

I broke a leaf the other weekend and my lhs cant get parts for the sawback yet so i found myself making some. I built the back ones quite long and moved the rear shackle to the end of the frame and in the front i drilled offset holes extending the wheel base around 7/8" just got to thinking about this thread while i was making them and that this might just be your solution.

I used TF2 hanger on the front of the rear leafs, moved forward, and reversed the stock hanger at the rear. Shortened the wheelbase to 11 3/8".

Does the rc4wd front hanger fit snug, even though it's bolted to one hole only?

It's fairly solid, only the slightest movement when forced.
I will drill the second hole when I'm sure this is the set up I want.
