If you are referring to making a straight hole down a rod w/o deviating from center, you need a live center for your press table:

This still relies on you being able to center punch the ends of the rods accurately on center, but once you do that the live center holds your stock straight and true while you clamp it in place...

A live center would be kind of redundant after the fact though. Since he would have already had to find the center to be able to correctly utilize a live center..

yeah all i do is nail 2 2x4's together drill a 1/4 hole in it with my drill press.

Jam the rod in there, eyeball center punch it and drill away.

A live center will kinda get in the way of the drill bit. You use a live center on a lathe to keep the workpiece from flexing when machining. He is using a drill press.
