Default Would you consider buying a US$130 rock crawler?

I just like to get a general opinion on pricing of RTR (or kit) rock crawlers.

If you would consider buying one - what would you expect from it?

yes, for the g/f

for $130...not expecting a comp ready deal....maybe just a generic axial type shafty. i can see plastic lockers and gears...but as long as there'd be upgrades availble for it it'd be cool. prob a cheaper esc and motor as well, but same with lockers....as long as it can be upgraded.

i think it'd hit a key demographic in the market....similar to the Axial RTR, but almost half the cost.

I believe everyone has seen cheap "bargain" r/cs from China. They are bad quality, so bad that they drive people out of the hobby by discouraging new hobbyists who wish to try something cheap first. I know I will never buy a $130 rtr crawler, as there is just no room for development/tooling/proper materials/transportation costs and the profits of however many agents there are in that $130. So something will suffer, and it will not be transportation costs or profits.

Also, you need a blue star to do market research, or the mods are gonna get medieval on your hiney.

+1, I can't see how you could make a decent RTR for that price and not have it be cheap toy grade junk.

ooopps my bad... its not really for a marketing thing. Mods, please delete the thread if I violated a rule.

... I was just curious if a Medium Price range R/C was workable... similar with what happened on the airsoft scenario... wherein there was a significant increase in airsoft hobbyist when a medium priced electric airsoft gun was marketed.

I agree 120%. Something #130, you know its not goign to be good at all, (if its 1/10 scale.) The DTX mini crawler, i hear isnt bad for $70... But you know $130 machine is going to turn into a $300 machine VERY quickly...

It would have to better than this...

Rockslide RS10 XT 1/10 Scale Crawler 2.4GHz

which retails for $155 shipped and includes everything except 4 AAA batteries for the TX. You can get spare parts for it and it has a decent warranty.

Not saying the RS10-XT is perfect but it's great value for the money and works very well with a few minor fixes (see the RS10 forum on this BBS) and is 1/10 2.2 comp legal (minus the rear steer) so in theory provides a good low-end starter rig assuming you have a thick enough skin to show up at a comp with one (but that's another matter).

I just imagined someone showing up at the NATS with one.....dead silence and dropped jaws as far as the eye can see....

isn't that the kind of stuff Exceed sells. cheap knock offs , lack of parts and lousy CS.

the xr10 was like $160 but had no electronics.. a friend of mine was looking at buying one, yeah the price is good but then you add the 600 bucks worth of electronics just to get it moving then suddenly it becomes an 800 dollar crawler..

i wouldnt trust a 130 dollar crawler as far as i can throw my 1:1 truck

Rtr often stands for ready to replace. Buy used if price is an issue like that.

This sport needs the $130 RTR rigs and needs people to support them. The sport of rock crawlers grows by getting new people into the hobby. A lot of these new people are children without jobs. Who do you think flips the bill to buy them these trucks? I'm not certain about everyone else but I can't afford to buy $300 kits and then spend another $100-200+ in electronics. Surely the $130 rtr exceeds and knock offs are cheap but they offer the ability to get into the sport. They may not be comp ready but they will do the job till something better comes around

I don't much see how a cheaply made 130 dollar helps anyone in the Hobby. I think it would push away just as many as it would bring it. I buy one maybe 2 trucks a year, not a lot by some standards. I would rather have quality over quantity. But, that being said, there is an azzhole for every seat.
