i run sta-plex , its wheel bearing grease $4 a tub, very very close to Lucas red N' tacky.

and if you do end up buying the over priced rocksmith jelly just know the teflon bits/flakes in it are not good to run on/ in plastic gears like axial trannys, but a very light coat of just about any regular grease will work well with plastic gears.

but i prefur my wheel bearing grease for metal to metal in rc applications as it is ment to resist pound out and last a good while in my Losi with the worm gears.

I use some wheel bearing grease I got at my dad's work, I think it's Castrol but not entirely sure.

Yea, I got Ford wheel bearing grease, thats the stuff that let all the crap in my housings (damn ford products)

But has anybody actually tried Automatic transmission fluid? Cause it seems like it would work decent? Most of it would sit at the bottom, and then when the gears start moving, it would drag the fluid from the bottom, up through the gears.. Just my $.02 Seems to make sense to me.

When I first assembled my AX-10, years ago, I thought I could seal the case halves with black Permatex RTV and fill the axles with Lucas gear oil stabilizer. I severely underestimated how much the housings flex. They constantly leaked slowly for the next ten hours or so of use. Sure were nice and quiet though. I predict that trans fluid would just make a mess much quicker.

I've since refilled them with Lucas Red and Tacky #2 and couldn't be happier.

I heard of Rock Jelly, and I've also heard of people using automatic transmission fluid. I tried lithium grease. But when I took my axle halves apart, there was a ton of sand, and a whole bunch of other stuff that shouldnt be in there, was there....

But yea guys, any help is appreciated

My transmission was loud as hell to. take it apart put some of this on every bearing inside and BLAM!!! it runs like a champ..
i had a small sip cup i put this lube in put the bearing in it to soak about 5 mins and they work as they are brand spankin new.
u can pick this up at home depot for 5$

I also took apart my axles and did those barrings there also

Get this right here and put on all your gears, and put some down the axle shafts also, in doing so it will stop the sand before it reaches the bearings. You can pick up this can for about 6-8$ at your local Auto store

I just picked up some Liquid Wrench spray on white lithium grease. The can says it sprays on and sets as grease.

I will try it out this weekend and keep you posted

I use Mobil 1 syntetic bearing grease... its red. I have put on all my R/C's including my slash gear box(highspeed) and it stays put, but its not to thick. Found it autozone.

I think its about the same as the Lucus stuff.

Another vote for Lucas Red and Tacky #2. Great stuff, I use it in everything from my fullsize yotas, to packing my crawler's gearcases with. For the money I don't think you can get a better grease.

Yes, it is thick, yes it does stick to everything very well. No, it doesn't cause enough drag to effect electronics temps or runtime.
