Based off your pics, I like this layout better:

Especially if you are gonna mount the battery on the other side. I'd still go with teh laydown setup. But stretch the WB a bit to get rid of that crazy driveshaft angle.

if the laydown version is more compact, then it would hopefully bring the driveshafts over towards the motor. would be nice to know the dimensions. the direct drive looks a good transmission. a bit like me.. nice and simple

Based on that pic the lay down version would move your driveshafts towards the motor side around an inch, if you factor in placing the lay down (moving motor too) right by the chassis side. Depending your the relation of the top of your skid to the centerline of the axle, the stand up version could also provide significant improvement on your drive line angles.

More pics this week will provide much more insight, I promise. Stay tuned!

thanks. i run a 54T 32p spur gear with 14T pinion. assuming your transmission doesn't have the same amount of reduction as the Axial i would need to change that. the spur is an Associated #2266 just to let you know. lot of people with foff trucks use them.

The Project X trans is direct drive and thus offers no internal reduction. That said, a 66/9 32p combo would yield 7.33:1 ratio. In 48p 96/12 48p combo would give you 8:1.

Talking Re: BWD "Project X" Direct Drive Trans...so many applications!

Here's the direct drive setup I've been working on.

Losi Ten-SCTE center diff/motor mount. Scorpion 3800kv out runner. Waiting on a 9 tooth MOD 1 pinion to arrive. With stock ratio r&p, I should have a 12.9:1 final drive ratio. The fastest ratio an Axial trans (with stock r&p) is 15.38:1 so this should have some get up and go. Currently, with a 15t pinion, final drive ratio is 7.8:1 which provides tons of straight line speed, but terrible start up.
