Question Help with spur gear needed!!!!!!!

I have a custom truggy with a axial trans, and traxxas velinion brushless got it running today and almost immediately stripped the spur gear. I know someone is going to ask and yes the gear mesh was set as near to perfect as u can get. I have a robinson racing pinion and had an axial spur on it. I guess my real question iswhat is thebest 90+ spur gear I can get.

Any help will be greatly appreciatted thanks in advance.

Kimbrough.

And you might think about 32pitch, less likely to strip.

with the vxl you should definitely run 32p.

I like 5:1 for most of my trucks

You could 6:1 for more torque... when I was running a VXL and Summit trans in a scaler, I was at 7.5:1!

Definitely run 32p. I switch my Slash to 32p and they last a long time! The Traxxas pinions lasted longer then the Robinson Racing pinions.

If its an axial transmission the an associated NTC3 spur will fit, and they are made by kimbrough.

#2264 50 tooth

#2265 52 tooth

#2266 54 tooth

they are about the same diameter as an axial 87 tooth 48dp spur

I would suppose it would depend heavily on if you're talking a Truggy, (such as an RC8Te, or a Hyper Mini STe)...... or a Tuber, (such as an SCX based custom build). The difference in gearing between the two is drastically different.

Hints like Axial trans, and 90+ tooth spur lead me to believe it's a tuber. So under that assumption,

I'd hazard a guess that jumping from 48 pitch to 32 pitch you'd just divide your 90+ by 48 and multiply that by 32. So..

90t-48p=60t-32p,
92t-48p=61.334t-32p, ( I always round spurs up, pinions down), so 62t
94t-48p=62.667t-32p, (or 63t)

The tooth profiles on 32 pitch is going to be quite a bit taller than the 48 pitch, so if you match the ODs of the two, your 'datum diameters' will be off. Most will say "not by much", depends then on how heavy your rig is, and how close you are now on your gearing. If you're nowhere near 160°-180° for motor temps, you can safely move a couple teeth. But if you're routinely getting into the 'danger zone' on heat, I'd rather see you do the math and not burn out your equipment.

The kimbrough spurs are trash, weaker than the stock spur. The plastic is too soft, first bind and all the teeth fold over flat. The Robinson white delrin spurs are pure beef, I've never stripped a 48 pitch one.
