Default tranmission/axle choices

So i bought a cool tube frame buggy chassis for cheap and want to build up something that i can really hammer on and not break to much, kinda like rock bouncing stuff. i had planned on just using whatever kind of tranny i find used and replace parts as i break them but now im wondering if i should just get the rc4wd R2 HD tranny, does this hold up good to big brushless power? Also need to decided on axles, i can get a set of g-made R1 axles that need some parts for $35 so i had planned on getting them and a set of ebay straight axle conversions for them ( i dont want gear reduction, not really making a crawler)
What do you guys think abouy this?

I have not been impressed with my RC4WD R2D transmission. The dig sticks badly and I've already worn out the final drive gear and that is with a brushed motor. To be fair, though, it may not have been properly lubed to begin with. I've since lubed it and it is holding up. Perhaps the HD will hold up better. I'm replacing with an Axial Wraith/SCX10 transmission that will be rebuilt with Vanquish, Integy, and RPP components. As for the Gmade portal axles, I love them. They have held up well under the abuse that I've dished out. But I would not recommend them for a higher speed bouncer.

i would definatly stay away from the r2 trans. it wont hold up long with brushless power.

I'm running a roc412 on 3s through a built scx10 trans with zero issues in a rig that's not light, super light buggy+r2 trans+weak hobbywing setup on small 2s=epic trans failure and the roc412 get driven much much harder, I wouldn't use an r2 trans for big brushless power.

Just my $.02. I would use an axial trans and ar60 axles with hd gears. Or if you happen to have a xl5/vxl traxxas 2wd trans handy they will take massive power stock but they are bulky. Just lock the diff, mount it sideways and connect the driveshafts to your axles.

Got the tranny today, not sure what I'll do, I dont want to break it and I can run it in my scaler, but I spent a lot of time moving stuff around in my scaler to get the body to fit with the scx10 tranny.

I definitely would have picked a well built scx10 over the r2, but give it a shot anyway, maybe the HD version will hold up. The most common weak point of the R1 axles are the dogbones/cva. A common fix is to use tlt or wk knuckles and shorten cvds to fit. With these mods some guys have ran R1 axles on 4s. What is this straight axle conversion you are referring to? The portals are molded into the housing and they would be hard to get rid of without chopping up the housing.

I think you will be happy with wraith axles.
