Default has anyone made, or run, a double cardan cv axle?

It seems like it would be a good alternative to a wide angle CVD, since they would be smoother and have less stress on one individual pin, which would mean slower wear on the moving parts.

I've seen a few in rc drift articles and forums, but I haven't seen any in the crawler or scaler market. Have they been tried and just didn't hold up to the abuse?

thanks, I just went and read the rest of that thread that whole rig is just flat out insane! :O

I love the way he built those, it really makes me wonder now why no company has tried to produce a double cardan that gets anywhere near that turning radius.

I thought about one of these a whole bunch since these are pretty cool. Unfortunately, keeping both pivots centered on the main section always seemed like a challenge.

The stress on the pins isn't any less though than a standard single CV joint. it's still the same torque being transfered through the same size pin, it just does it twice per joint rather than once.

I personally think time would be better spent building a single CV that achieves higher angles by utilizing different size components, such as a larger "ball" for a given shaft size. Obviously the limitation is what can fit in the c hubs.
