Default Offset SSD D60 axle

The guys in tools and procedures helped me choose a bit to cut the pumkin for the steel tube. Still moking up. This will be my length. 8.5" hex to hex for now. Still need to drill and tap the housings / axle tubes / knuckles to have it all together. Also need to get a new set of wraith univerals to cut down ( stole these off my wraith for mock up)

Prob wont have time to mess with it again till next weekend. The axle tube is 1/2" into the pumpkin. Im planning on drilling / tapping for two 3mm screws per tube into the housing. Hoping it holds up. May make a brace from the pumpin to each tube.

I like the end result, I'd personally use a lathe for the job just to stay concentric.

Thanks man. No way is it perfect but i think itll work for me. If i had a lathe or mill id be using them but only have a drill press, dremel and hand tools.

Sign me up for a front narrow xr mod width axle. Really cool interested to see how it turns out.

Danggg those look awesome! You could weld on a truss connecting the tubes and never have to worry about them coming out.

I fully understand that, and I find myself in the same situation right now. I'm anxious to see what you come up with as a truss. I have a set of these housings waiting for the exact thing to happen to them.

thanks yall, brazinscalerc i used a 1/2" bit. tacocat, i think i will end up making a truss or something at some point here soon. this axle is going on a leaf sprung truck on my build here : Ctrwannabe's take on Fread Williams clampy

I will show a little how i built this for anyone wanting to do there own, its not to hard at all.

first i cut the tube to get the pumpkin by itself.

next i centered it into a vice with a rod in the chuck to keep everything as plumb as possible, and then drilled the hole using a 1/2" forstner bit and drilled about 1/2" into the housing.

next i took some 1/2" O.D. steel tube i picked up at home depo and cut it and played with length using the wraith uni's to get the width of 8.5" hex to hex i wanted.

for the outter axle tube berring i went with a 5mmx10mmx4mm flange berring to support the axle shaft the I.D. of the tube had to be filed down a little so they would fit inside

next i marked and cut then filed new flat spots on the universals to fit into the spool, and drilled/ tapped the axle tube to bolt to the pumpkin and c hubs.

I am liking this. Really thinking about giving it a go myself. I'd really like to do an offset front for my XJ build! Thanks for sharing! Cheers!

Tie the truss into the pumpkin with a couple bolts and it will all hold up well.
