Default What o-rings for the proline scaler shocks?

I finally need to rebuild the proline scaler shocks, which of the X-ring style shocks will fit those scaler shocks? I want no leaks!

Thanks!

with a 3.5mm shock shaft you may need AE #91055, these are Associated X-rings for their 13mm shocks on the SC10 4x4 which also have a 3.5mm shaft, but you really need to know the size of your current o-rings

If I can find my MacMaster Carr receipt I'll post up the "X rings" I picked up from them for my scalers. If I'm not mistaken though I got the size either off the packaging or off ProLines web site.

Don't buy "RC brand" o-rings. Get them from Macmaster you'll enough to do several rebuilds for a fraction of the price.

I second that Dwill. I would love to know what you used.

I haven't been able to keep mine from leaking since new. Even after Proline sent me a rebuild.

Knowing what I know now, I wonder why AE used to use silicone for o-rings in their shocks. Silicone is not meant for "dynamic" fluid applications, as it tears easily.

My current job is selling industrial maintenance supplies. I've got racks of o-rings. Buna-N is probably best and cheapest material for this sort of application, but you can move up to Viton if you want something that holds up to friction better. 70 duro (hardness) is average for o-rings, but you can get 90 duro if you want something a little stiffer.

Looking at those "x-rings", they are called "quad-rings" in the industry. That should make searching in non-RC circles a little easier.

like everyone else who's using silicone rings in the RC industry, to reduce friction on the shock shafts. this provides smoother shock action. tearing while in service has not been a problem with silicone O-ring or X-ring equipped shocks regardless of brand. end-users have damaged (tearing, chipping) them during shock assembly, but it happens with other o-ring and x-ring materials as well and a little common sense will avoid this.

X-ring, X-profile, "X-ring O-ring", Quad-ring, Q-rings, double seal, seems "the industry" has a lot of names for said x-rings

Okay... In "my" industry they are called quad rings. That's the term my vendors seem to prefer, anyway...

I'm away from home a few days. But I believe this is what I used for my scalers…

McMaster-Carr

McMaster also of course has silicone o-rings available. I think you get 50 for 10.00.

That sounds about right for silicone in that size. Typically 20-ish cents per.

Swill, that link took me to a generic mcmaster page with o-rings. There wasn't a specific one. Which is the PN you used?

Hmm… sorry. I copied the link from the page the or ing I used were on.

If it took you to the o-ring section of the catalog, just scroll down the pictures and look for "X Profile" o-rings. Click that and you'll see on the left side where you can select the size you need.

If I'm not mistaken the ProLines used 3 or 3.5 mm ID o-rings. Also, I think I mistakenly said the "X rings" I got were slicone. They are not, they are BUNA. BUNA is designed to seal oil. So far my ProLines have not even had a weep.

I did get silicon o-rings as well, but the are standard round o-rings.

Plus, Buna is cheaper than silicone.

In the X ring version, Buna I found part number 1200N112 on McMaster. The measurements match with an old one I have laying here. 3.5mm ID, 1.5mm material width.

Yes, but what is the OD??? If the OD isn't correct it's not worth a flip!

It would be 3.5 + 1.5 + 1.5 for 6.5mm diameter.

I measure my old O rings at about that.
