Motors are incased in the housing picture from YouTube.

Diffs are locked well not really a diff. But axles are locked.

If this little wraith had a real servo I could live with the stock ESC No (dragbake).
The best ESC for this I think would be a used CC mamba25 so I can set the dragbake. Who has one laying around not being used... pm me if you have one on the cheap.
I like your Thread, and can't wait How it comes out.

If you are still looking for an esc, i don't have a mamba cc laying around.
But just found a mini esc at hk if 12$ fit in your Budget.

Today waiting for the mailman. I started looking for a 2s lipo for the $7.00 esc realizing i didn't have any 2s lipos. I must have tossed them out thinking I'll never need a slow ass 2s lipo....
So I ordered 2x 800mah 2s lipos. Meanwhile I figured now I need to modify the nicad 9.6v battery. The esc can handle 2s lipo 4-7 cell nimh or nicad..
Here's stock 8cell battery and location

Modified battery to 6cell

ESC mounted in the mini Wraith notice in 2nd picture there's a switch on the esc. This turns on the brakes, with brakes off it's like Crawler mode instant forward and reverse... I've only ran it with brake on so it's forward brake (double tap) reverse.

New battery location and the servo is mounted (towerpro servo $7.)

Can you measure the width of the cage and the length from the dash to the back of the cage? Looks like this might make a good roll cage for a NewBright tj.

Wow dude, you just solved a mystery for me. I bought this same exact speed controller, but it was marketed as a winch controller, and that's what I'm using it for... I never knew what that switch was for, and I've wondered why sometimes it doesn't quite want to change direction exactly right. I need to flip that switch to fix it, only thing is it's now buried in Shoe Goo to waterproof it lol. Guess I'll get to digging! But good to have that question answered!

Glad I could solve your mystery for you.... what size battery are you using to power the ESC?

I have two options for powering it. I have a separate pack mounted on the front grill of my SCX10 jeep body that powers my headlights, marker lights, rooftop lights, audio system, and optionally the winch. But if I decide not to power all that for a run, I can alternatively power that little esc off of my BEC circuit on the main system. So to answer your question, 6v if I'm powering from the BEC, 7.4v(2s) if I'm powering it from the body's separate power system. Obviously the winch (homemade servo winch) is much more powerful running off the 2s. But I think when I bought it it was advertised as being able to work off 12v, so it'll probably work fine up to 3s.

TY, lol... probably would be fine on 3s....
I think you're right just won't have a true LVC for 3s lipo..
Hook a 3s up to your esc and lmk.... lol.

I'll post a video soon showing the improvement...
Steering compared to stock is 100% better. Compared to an axial scx10 with xr-mod is really sucks...
Before with stock servo rig sitting on floor not rolling. turning wheels with the radio front wheels wouldn't turn until you made forward or reverse motion.

With new servo turn radio left or right and wheels turn left and right... so 100% better.

Here's the final battery set-up.

I picked up 2x 2s 800mah 25c from eBay 11.00 shipped.
These little batteries compared to the stock 800mah nicad battery kick ass.... run time with nicad 5-7 mins. Lipo 20- 30 minutes.
I'll eventually get some scx10 shocks to replace the stock "shocks". For now think I'll call it done... enjoyed tweaking/modify this mini Wraith. Bottom line no matter how much I modify this rig it will always be a subpar scaler/POS toy grade rc... because of axles.

Money spent.
50.00 RTR mini Wraith
7.00 ESC
7.00 servo
11.00 lipo x2
75.00 total...
Free radio
Free modified tires

Hopefully soon I'll get running video with my baby nephew..

It will always be just a toy but now it's halfway hobby grade. more than what it was. looks good to me. that's part of the fun making it perform better. for 75 buck you have half a wraith.

I sure when I'm board I'll end up making some aluminum links for it... already made rear upper links the traxxas rodends hollow ball are a perfect fit.
The rear axle needed to be clocked up. To help axle from getting hung up.

The front axle has a toy grade steering tierod I'd like to replace but haven't opened the front axle case yet to see if I can cut the skidplate off protecting the tierod.

So I made some rear lower links to help clock rear axle up a hair more than front.
Rear axle

Front axle

After making rear links. Looking at the stock links I thought hmmm? Will traxxas hollow balls fit in them... answer yes if I drilled out rodends so here's both Modified and stock link.. by doing link mod I got rid of 90% of the slop in front links.

Hollow balls are a bit stiff but will loosing over time seems to be bind free.

I'll get those measurements up ASAP.
