Belt drive, because gear drive is too strong and reliable.

Gear drive is noisy. Not for the hardcore crowd.

That's pretty nifty - I once owned a Suzuki Savage LS650 with belt-drive, it was my first motorbike. Might have to try out the Vaterra version someday!

A belt drive will be less efficient due to the tensioning required of the belt to keep it from slipping teeth.

Looks nifty. Problem is I don't think my plastic spur and metal pinion makes much noise. It doesn't seem practical to me. Hope it works great. Please do post back with your experience when you have a lot of hours on it and give us some feedback. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |

F the naysayers. I like it. The belt looks really strong. Doing something different is never a bad thing!

Is that a solution looking for a problem? I mean it’s cool that someone designed a way to belt drive an RC truck. You could also design a way to chain drive one, but why?

LOL you guys get down on your knees when someone thinks putting a steam engine(cool project BTW) in a rc is a good idea, but a belt drive not so much. Hypocrite much? |

Keep it out of the sand & gravel. A sharp rock in the right place will break that belt in a second. Otherwise, Very cool. I have a belt driven Harley but, I don't go trail riding with it.

I like it. The point of RC's is doing your own thing, accomplishing something different, doing what pleases you. Given the typical eccentricities here, I am surprised at the negative comments.

Proper gear mesh is quiet enough, but it's still interesting.

I don't understand all the sceptical comments and "better knowers" - I run it on an old scx10 and it does great! Silent also. Just get some inner fenders or some panels to keep the dirt away from your transmission. The belt is super tough - and frankly, how would you get a rock in that spot? This is perfect for a detailed scale rig that you don't want to roll over anyways - not for rock racers.
