Default Exceed MaxStone 10 Diff Locker

Searched the forum to see if I could find any info related to my problem and my solution. Nothing I could find so here goes -

My neighbor bought a used MaxStone 10 (first hobby grade rc) and I was going through it checking everything out. A few adjustments and I thought everything was good to go. Then, discovered the plastic diff locker in the rear axle was rounded out. After much thought I came up with the idea of drilling a hole through the plastic under the bearing mount and putting set screws in from both sides to lock on to the flat sides of the axle. Tightened the set screws down just enough that I could still move the axle in and out with some firm pressure. Mounted the axle in the axle housing and made sure the outer axle bearing was seated in its location then adjusted the crown to pinion gear clearance by pulling/pushing the axle in and out until I had what I thought would be a good gear mesh, nice and smooth when rotated. Removed the locker bearing, tightened the sets screws down to lock the axle solid in the locker. Put the bearing back on and bolted everything back together.

I gently test ran it and it seems to work okay. So, my question is, does anyone know if this will hold together? Has anyone done something similar? Should I consider this a temporary fix and get a new diff locker on order?

The owner doesn't want to put a lot of money into something that may turn out not to be as interesting as I make it out to be.

Thanks in advance for any advice/comments/suggestions.

I would consider that a temporary fix, I'd probably order a metal locker before that fails.

You can get an aluminum locker on ebay for about $10 shipped from hong kong. Some people also JB weld their diffs.

This. Do an ebay search for HSP 180009. Buy 2 and replace the locker in both diffs.

Thanks Joe and Jim. I was sure there was something in aluminum available as a replacement, just wasn't sure who the manufacturer was. Thought Redcat might also fit but wasn't sure.

I'll suggest this to the owner and see where it goes from there.

Redcat fits as well. Costs more, though shipping is likely quicker.
