| Whats the verdict on SSD Pro44 axles?
So I been getting pretty tired of stripping out the chubs on the one piece Axial axles so I plan to upgrade to the SSD units (with their aluminum chubs and knuckles). I have not seen any recent input on these axles, especially from people that have plenty of miles one them. How do these hold up? Obviously the one concern is where the tubes meet the center housing.

I have them on my 10.2 and they’ve been great. No issues. Not a ton of miles but it gets its time in and it isn’t babied. Hard to beat their value IMO.

I don't have a set, but the only complaints I've read about were from the CVD axles, which had multiple complaints Sent from my LGMP450 using Tapatalk |

Recently we actually increased the CVD size and released universals: Pro44 Universal Axle Shafts for SCX10 II We take complaints seriously. |

I only have the housings with stock axial parts and the SSD knuckle weights. So I can't comment the internals. But the housing is very nicely done. Looks great, fitting perfect. |

Absolutely put Loctite, glue, or something on the screws that secure the axle tubes to the center housing. I failed to do this and they eventually became loose and sloppy.

| Re: Whats the verdict on SSD Pro44 axles? Those junkers aren’t SSD. So lets keep it SSD. These are complete SSD axles, with SSD brass knuckles solid and smooth. wven as beefy as these are, i hung a bit more brass on them, dont worry about the center scews, plenty! Cannot beat SSD products across the board. I cant find any of their product that are junk . I own 3 sets of wheels both 2.2 and 1.9, 3 complete Wraith/Yeti Diamond axles ...... Top Notch Quality!! So far my Pro44's have been great. I really like the weight and quality of them. They make the AR44's that come out of the Axial box seem junky. |

Yea when someone recommends pot metal chinesium over most anything their opinion is dismissed entirely. I really like the housings, I use the centers to build sportsman rear axles regularly and I'm going to be building myself a set of class 2 axles based off of them soon.

SSD is top drawer, tried and tested on so many parts which is why this forum is continuously supporting and recommending them. SSD pro diamonds with heavy knuckles, c-hubs and internals. Damn site smoother than boom or axial. They look damn hot too.... Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

i very much dislke the seperate tube design to me it just seems like a failure point personaly i prefer the pot metal chinesium axlels to aluminum axles i had a ssd knuckle that needed the bearing pocket grinded out to get the bearings in i remeber reading about the ssd quality control issue a while ago and he sead he fixed the problem but i think there was a bad run or 2 of parts that are running around out there Last edited by ferp420; 06-21-2019 at 07:52 AM. |

We actually check every single bearing housing in every machined product we pack. There is always a chance (human error) that one bad one gets through. But it's very rare these days. We run tight tolerances on bearing pockets. If you dont insert them straight they wont go in. Also different bearing manufacturers have different sizes. Some are 10.96, 10.98, 11.00 etc... This can cause fitting issues also. In most cases it is likely to be bearings not being straight. It happens, even I do it sometimes...

None of my SSD parts have had any issues - but... ...speaking of QC glitches - I ordered Ascender front shock mounts/body post holders from Boom Racing and they were completely out-of-spec, not mirrored images of each other so that to use them you'd have to drill non-parallel holes in the hood of the body: Ummm... |

The separate tubes and center kick ass. Many small timers have developed bad ass tubes & trusses based off of ssd centers as well as link & servo mounts. The only thing that would make an ar44 a better axle would be larger carrier bearings to allow for larger shafts.
