Default Cheap Ali Portals anygood?

Been tempted by these cheap portals on Aliexpress. Has anyone had any experience with them? R they any good? And the GRC G2 Ackerman looks good as well but bit pricey. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Normally in my experience, you get what you pay for. There are other options but they are pricey for something. Here in my country we have a saying that traduces something like this “the cheap always turn out expensive”. But just sometimes it does work alright like with my flysky GT-5 transmitter. It is a bet.

judging only by the looks of it the cv joint looks weak and the portal gears probably wont hold up vary well and they might be hard to replace

It is strange that they're using hypoidal diff gears, but they have the pinion gear mounted below the axle's centerline rather than above it as the Axial SCX10 II does. It's wasting the improved clearance that hypoidal diff gears are supposed to allow.

EDIT: I'm guessing they did this because they copied the Axial SCX10 II's axle design, but when they added the portal gearboxes on the ends of the axle it reversed the wheels' rotation, and they "fixed" it by flipping the diff gears upside-down rather than reversing the motor's rotation.

Yep, what I figured as well.

I was keen on these well and if you look closely, the lock to lock steering angle looks extremely low.

It's impossible to be sure without a top-down view of the axles. I will say the max steering angle doesn't look better than average, anyway.

That is interesting for sure. I cant tell 100%, but it looks like its possible to flip your ring gear to other side then run high pinion. Looks the same to me from pics. I would definitely try it if i got them at-least.

Yes it's 2 types of axle, first one (named Fimona) being scx10 or ii compatible, the 2nd one is supposedly for trx4 (brand name's GRC).
I've had their forwarded motor/battery mount for my trx4 with fair quality (my opinion). May be it better off the unchartered area and if so what would be a good brand in axle with average pricing! VP's off limit with my budget:(!!!
Thanks guys!

The irony of Jeep drivers using that statement...

I never heard of Fimonda. Like most cheap products from China, it's probably going to be hit and miss in terms of quality.

I like Jeeps, but I could never own a modern one until they fix the reliability issues. I, thankfully, was able to talk my girlfriend out of buying a Jeep. I wasn't able to do the same for my sister. She bought a Cherokee.

I sold that one last year, and it only needed oil changes and rotations. I get the bare bone Sports. We built a house and I couldnt afford to keep it. I have an 18 now and it’s mostly stock except for 33’ tires. This one has been pretty solid too. My wife drives the Grand Cherokees and we lease them. We’ve had 4 and only 1 was quirky sometimes.

If those are from GRC I would not hesitate to buy them. I am currently running a number of GRC parts and I have been very impressed with the fit and finish of their assemblies. BTW, this is my XJ.

I have not heard anything bad about the GRC G2S, but I do not believe they are full axles, rather they are upgrades for an existing set of TRX4 axles. I don't own a TRX4 but I was considering buying a set of the G2s for a custom build and it seems as though they only provide the internals that differ from the originals.

Currently fighting with Flysky over a gt5 that went wonky after a month. Warranty is nonexistent.
