Capra trans & straight axle gearing...help

Been trying to get the capra trans to work with a set of ottsix v1 axles.
This hasn't been working out well. I can get good wheel speed but no real
power for climbing etc. Plus the motors get too hot.

What I'm working with\tried:
30t & 55t motors and pinions down to a 9t.
Axles now are OD front & reg. rear. I can do reg. front & UD rear if need be.

I've read way too many gearing threads at this point and am boggled.
Any help/suggestions on this would be appreciated...or am I just fighting
a losing battle?

I think so honestly. The Capra trans is not a good choice unless youre running portals. Even then i dont like it personally. It will be tough no matter what to keep temps down. You are on the right track though. Only thing you could try is UD both FR and RR with that 9t pinion. It is just too high of ratio for crawling i think, and getting OD in some way just adds a little too much to the equation as well.

Maybe someone with actual experience in running standard axles can chime in, but just going by the gearing this would be my guess to the temps and lack of crawling ability.

Capra trans is only 4.3:1 on a good day and its over geared even in the stock application. To run standard axles with a 2.92:1 ratio you would need a trans capable of roughly 12:1 or 13:1 to get a decent overall reduction with a 35t brushed motor.

Thanks guys. I never had this big a problem with gearing before.
Tried to crunch the numbers and wasn't working out. I wanted a
low profile trans and was hoping it would work. Thinking a Dlux
Ham Berger trans may be my best bet.
