Yeah - thats why I asked. I'd like to run them as my project might have a pretty long wheel base.

Here's something I ran across a short time ago, referring to the punishers as something less than overwhelming...

Got the larger tires on with hex adapters for the wheel.

And you'll need a custom chassis to run a pede tranny.

Anyway, I know the R2 is a pure crawling tranny, and gearing can't be changed. Is that the only advantage that the Pede has over it? Is the pede that much stronger? I don't want to be afraid to hammer the throttle though... and the R2 is pretty pricey compared to a $25 pede trans off eBay.

Whats your gearing set up and how do you like it?
I have both trannys and like both alot.

I like the pede in a trail rig, when I built Bumblebee for my daughter I put one in there. I like that it has a slipper for when she is bashing around. The durability of a pede is really good and replacement parts are cheap and easy to get.

For most of my bigger brushless motors I really like to run a 15 - 16 tooth pinion and an 87 tooth spur.

With a brushless setup you can destroy either tranny, the slipper clutch is what make the pede survive imo.

And thats the other thing, trying to decide on weather of not I should go brushless. If I go brushless, I'm looking at the Crawlmaster or a BM9. The only thing I'm worried about is if I get an R2 that I'll destroy it, and thats $80 down the hole for a replacment. I really like the idea of the slipper just incase I get in a bind and punch the throttle.

I'm thinking just go all out on the power side as a pede would be easier/cheaper to replace.

The R2 gear ratio is adjustable from 10:1 to 30:1, by changing the pinion. I ran a pede for a year without ever having a problem. I have destroyed some R2's, but too much horsepower will do that to any tranny, although a slipper can help(it didn't help the 5 Emaxx tranny idler gears though) . I like the compact size of the R2, I had one in my scaler, but recently I picked up a couple more pede's, as I feel the R2 needs to be maintenanced/lubed often to keep it alive, and the pede doesn't. Also, it is nice to be able to run a smaller spur gear to get some wheelspeed, with the same size pinion, so the motor can work a little easier. With the R2, if you want more wheelspeed, you either gear up the pinion or add more cells.

Replacement gears for the R2 are only $15.

I think I'll go with the pede first because of cost, then maybe an R2 when a rebuild is in order.

I'm sure the you'll be happy with the pede, I was until I wanted something smaller for the comp rig, I still like it for certain trucks, like snow/mud bashers.

crawford perfomance engineering is where i got mine. I got the 1" extended 12-14mm adapters. Then i got the 14-17mm adapters that slide over the 14's.

edit:
just saw these and they look perfect to run axial beadlocks like mine

You said the R2 is loud? Is it just because the guts are all hardened steel or is there design flaws? I was wanting to go with an R2 for my most recent build but now this thread has me second guessing my choice. I am using TLT axles. Do you have any experience with the TLT/R2 combo?

My guess to it being loud is the metal gears and maybe not enough lube.
