Default Shortest Metal Driveshaft?

I'm in need of a very short driveshaft (preferable in metal) for the rear axle on my 6x6. Space is very tight and it's becoming a challenge to find something short enough that won't bottom out on the splines or overextend and fall apart during articulation.

I don't know if a shortened Junfac will be short enough. I'm considering an SDI Propeller shaft, but have no experience with them. Not sure if they can be shortened enough, either. Maybe an Axial shaft can be shortened enough and still be strong?

Anyone have a shortened shaft that's been reliable?

I'm away from the truck at the moment and can't recall the length I needed, but it's a bit couple millimeters shorter than the stock Beast II 6x6 rear driveshaft.

Hello!

If you have some spare axial universals you could put them together and you have a very short driveshaft. I stumbled on this mod when I had to put the gearbox of my gelande at an angle. How durable it is I dont know, I have not driven it yet but it seems sturdy enough.

The two pieces are threaded inside and I used a 10mm set screw unite them.

Good luck

That looks like a very interesting mod, but it looks like it's for a fixed lengths. I'll need mine to be able to extend/retract as the suspension cycles. Thanks, though!

Its definently a fxed mod. I guess you could allow a few mm movement but not much.

I know rc4wd have a short scale driveshaft but I have no experience with it.

Thanks, Terje. And yes, RC4WD does have a short driveshaft, but it's not quite short enough.....if I recall.

badhoopty has chopped the heck out of some MIPs and welded em back together for a really short one that's still telescoping.

I'm prepared to do the same, if need be!

I've done that more than once, some with only a few mm's of telescoping movement.

This one is not as short as that but the most recent one I can remember shortening up. I was a Gmade.

Szczerba's MC6 6x6

Tommy, I have a really short MIP that I used on a shafty rig before. I can measure it up and send you a few pictures. PM me later to remind me.

I used the sdi, shafts on my 6x6 build and they work great.

MIP 09137 is what you need. It's a shaft they sell for a dig and it's very short. I use it on my 10" WB rigs, and most importantly, as the GCM front mount to transfer case shaft, shown below.

Nothing like MIP's to the rescue lol! If you're on a budget build the Junfac carbon steel shafts usually can be found $28.99 new online. I don't like the retainer ring they use to hold the pin in place inside the hub, but if you're not using it as a crazy basher it holds up find to hand wound 35T motors in 3s.

Also great option on comp shafty rigs due to their lighter weight as compared to the hefty MIPs!

I've also ran rc4wd Punisher shafts for a custom build and they are solid as well.

OR if you're doing some insane build just testing out the waters using the Traxxas 6mm telescoping plastic beefy shafts aren't a bad idea either! That way you can cut to fit. Of course you'd need SuperShafty's 6mm outputs though.

Tommy, my experience with junfac drive lines shortened or not....... they bind under torque thus not allowing the suspension to articulate or compress. Put a set in your hand and twist opposite dkrections and then try to compress them. Now do the same with a set of mip or wild boars. You will feel the difference.

I think the shortest rc4wd shafts are 46mm to 50mm and 65mm to 85mm. They're $50 a pop too. Unless I missed it, I didn't see what length you're looking for?

Hey fellas, sorry for the lack of response on this topic, but I've been out of town for a week on vacation. I'll try to get a measurement for what I need later today and/or post a pic. It's for the rear-most driveshaft on my 6x6 Beast II. The catch is, I shortened the distance between the rear two axles so it needs to be really short. I'll get more details soon....hopefully later today.

Looks like I need something in the 58mm-63mm range. Cory, I did see that one from RC4WD, but it's actually too short! I'll re-evaluate everyone's suggestions here to see if something will work.

There is always an option: Hercules Hobby 1/14 Tractor Truck Aluminum Adjustable Driveshaft 55 -70mm HH/HH-UP0053

I haven't tried them yet myself but look pretty nice.

I like the looks of that one. Looks like it's rebuildable too.
