I have a Sig P6 9mm handgun but, I need something that can take care of the far away zombies on a budget. I'm thinking about putting together a Ruger 10/22.

If you want the most effective self defense weapon, get a Remington 870. Most self defense situations will be close to you and a 12 gauge is super mean at close range with some 00 buck shot in it. Probably more effective than a hand gun since the shot is close to the size of your fist. They express models are inexpensive. They also make tons of cool tactical stuff for them. I have one. It's got a short police barrel, tactical spring loaded stock with pistol grip, extended magazine, side saddle for extra rounds and a flashlight on the front. It's a mean bitch. It's a little heavy though since its a super magnum (fires 2 3/4", 3" and 3 1/2" shells). On another note though...I am starting to worry that assault rifles will be outlawed considering who's in office again. You may want to consider an AR15. Pretty sure that's where my tax return will go. I want to get one before someone tells me I can't. I'm going to get a colt 6920. It's simply a civilian version of the military M4. You can't go wrong with a ruger 10/22 they're super nice guns. Ammo is cheap. They've been around forever. Not much knock down power though. Another gun I have that I like is a Henry Golden Boy. It's probably not going to be your style though. It's a lever action rifle that looks like something the Rifleman would have. I have a .17 HMR and its is one of the most accurate long range rifles there is. Super cool gun! Again, about as much knock down power as a 22 but fire at almost twice the speed. |

The shotgun is a great idea though I would go with the Mossberg Flex 590 Tactical, already dressed for the party. Standard military shotgun is a Mossberg 500. I also would use #2 buckshot. I use an M4 carbine (16.5" barrel), the AR15 is the civilian version of the M16 and some companies are differentiating between Ar15s and M4s due to the different configs and barrel lengths. I have a Wingham Arms M4 and it is great. If the 22 is your choice, as nice as the 10/22 is, buy time you have it all dressed up, you could have bought a S&W MP 15/22. A little less accuracy at longer ranges, but very nice build and will give you an AR15 fell. Stay away from the Mossberg 715 Tactical. While not bad, it is significantly cheaper looking and feeling. Looks like an AR, but it s all fake plastic. |

Yeah, there are so many choices. Maybe I'll pick up an AR15 lower to build up over time. All the parts except the lower will always be available so, might want to consider getting your hands on one of those just incase. I might do that. Within the "Kovacs Kompound" we have 2- AR15's, 3- 9mm pistols, a .22 rifle and I believe a 30-06 rifle..We need to build up the armory before shit hits the fan! A shotgun would be useful although, I don't know anybody that would want to get shot with a .22 either.. I always hear "stopping power this, stopping power that" I can pierce a human skull from 200yrds with a .22, I'm not looking to splatter somebody through the damn wall as much as just stop them. A .22 with a 25rnd mag could cut somebodys knees out in 3 seconds. Obviously a shotgun could take them out with one shot if you hit them anywhere if you shoot in their general direction but, I'm not sold. I'd rather take them out at long distance so I dont have to drag their body back outside and/or clean up a mess. Hmmm. |

..and, I don't know if i'm looking at it like a robber is going to come into my home and steal my jewels or whatever.. I'm thinking more along the lines of.. Ok, shit has hit the fan, beginning of the end of the world, groups of people are going to attempt to take my land, food, supplies, etc. we'll already have the 12ft walls up around the 3 lots and anyone that trys to get in or near is getting shot at. |
