Default Closed course Scale Rock Race

After someone getting lost in the woods last year, I decided this years event will be a closed course.

Tentative date: June 8 (subject to change)

3 courses / tracks

Location: Palos IL Saganashkee slough (Old and I mean OLD rock quarry)

Entry fee: the 1/2 mile hike

Terrain: dirt, Rock, flat almost paved surface, minor mud

Classes:
1.9
2.2

Complete class rules not done yet but, they will be loose.

Who's in?

1.9 class rules:

Motor: Brushed only, no turn limit, 1 motor only

Battery: 3s Max lipo 2500 mah or smaller

Tires: Max size 4.75" height. Tire design is open, production and "cut n shut" allowed

Wheels: 1.9 ONLY. must be 1.9 inside and out, no SC wheels

WB: unlimited

ESC: Unlimited

2.2 Rules

Motor: Unlimited

Battery: 3s Max lipo NO mah limit

Tires: Unlimited

Wheels: 2.2 and smaller ONLY. must be 2.2 inside and out, no SC wheels

WB: unlimited

ESC: Unlimited

No scale points are awarded in either class though, this is only for SCALE vehicles. Vehicle must resemble a vehicle that has been made or could bed made.

Vehicle suggestions:
1.9 class
Twin Hammers
SCX-10
Venom Safari

2.2 Class
SCX-10 with 2.2's
Wraith
Gmade r1

You may run any SCALE vehicle as long as it fits the class rules. Please NO summits, revos etc.

Brushed only? 4.3" max tire height? That's awfully small. The factory tires available for a 1.9 wheel under that size is slim and I never even heard of a 1.9 cut & shut that wasn't 4.75". Why the 2s battery cap?

Just these rules alone exclude everyone I know. We mostly switched to brushless, 3s batteries and we follow the standard C2/1.9 rules of a 4.75" max tire height.

I mean, its your rules.. I'm just sayin. I heard it was pretty fun last time out.

Tire height was just from looking at a few manufactures, the biggest I saw were pro-line super swampers listed at 4.3". If it needs to be adjusted it can...

Motor/battery limit was based on what is available rtr. I wanted to keep the class very beginner friendly.

Edit: looks like axial is now using a 4.6" tire under the scx-10's, prolly best to up the tire size.

Looks like 2.2 only for me... my only brushed motors run on 6s.
Most of RC4WD 1.9 "comp" tires are about 4.75"

I hear ya.. I think its safe to increase the tire height to 4.75.

Mickey thompson baja ttc, Pitbull rock beast, rok lox, irok.. All the best 1.9 tires are either 4.75" or close to it.

Unlimited= friendly to everyone.

I'm just sayin.. I suck at driving anyways so, a big tire isnt going to help me.

What does battery size have to do with anything?

I usually run a 5400. I have a 3500 and a 2200. It's nice to run the big battery and not have to worry about changing it all day

You just said it... changing the battery. The idea is that the courses will hopefully be long enough that you may have to make a pit stop. It adds a different twist on things.

The other thing is, a 5000mah 20c pack has more "punch" available than a 2500mah 35c. Helps to level the field.

I'm willing to take 1.9 up to 3s but, for the reasons stated above man rating stays.

I'm hoping turnout is good and we can make a series out of it.

straight from my mind to tapatalk

I'm not really willing to buy different lipo packs to make the event. I don't have anything brushed anymore either.

It's weird that cut & shut tires are allowed in 1.9 but, there are those other restrictions. Cut & shuts are a huge advantage.
