Default Crawler? Scale? CXT 6x6

Ok I have been planning this one for a while now & have spent this week getting started on it & am at a pause point now because I am waiting for the trans, driveshafts, as well as a whole assortment of screws & nuts (I have depleted my parts box of hardware).

I tried leaf springs to keep it more scale but just wanted it to be more capable so I went with links instead. Yeah I know not scale but with how long it is I didn't want something with the articulation of a skateboard which is about how it was working with leafs.

Here are the pics of how it is coming out so far, I haven't decided between a flatbed or a Dakar style box on the rear but when the cab gets here I will decide.

This is based off of a 1:6 scale New Bright CXT so it is going to be big, the chassis is 33" long quite light so far but very rigid. I will weigh the chassis when I tear it apart next.

Let me know what you think & let me know any ideas you may think of.

Currently as pictured with axles, suspension, shocks, wheels & tires it weighs a mere 6 pounds 1 oz.

Not bad considering it is 33 inches long!

The trans & driveshafts should be here today & I am sure I will be limiting it some once the drivetrain is in, the rear axles won't articulate like that once there is a shaft connecting them.

I had it set at 36 inches so I would have a 19 inch bed for my comp rig to ride on but realized that it looked too long with only 3 axles & didn't want to do an 8x8 so I cut 3 inches out of it. If I do the flatbed the crawler will still fit.

I hate to dissapoint you of this, but those axles will look like like a set of 1/4 tons under that CXT body youre referring to. I have that same body here and have stuck WK axles underneath (which are 1inch wider than the axial ones)with the largest 2.2's ( crushers, stompers) and they are still not wide enough or big enough for that body I'd post pics but dont feel like spending any $ on a star

It looks good sofar but when that body arrives you'll be dissapointed:-(:-(

I assume that the cab is the same width as the bed?

Although the axial axle looks a bit small it is not too bad.

Small extenders make it a good width & on the rear the wheels will be under a flatbed or box & can be extended as well if needed.

Let me know if the cab is wider? If not I don't see where the disappoint will happen, but it is not here yet so we will see. Any way this is not for scale competitions it is just to satisfy my wish to build something BIG.

Ok here are some updates, after getting the steering & electronics in I found that it didn't steer at all but did this cool chassis dance :grumble:

So I had to redo the front upper link geometry & now the tires dance instead of the chassis!

Here are some pics & I have a vid that is uploading as well.

I'd have to take a second look, but I think the cab is the same width as the bed. What i meant is that the stock axle width will make it look less scale. I think you'll need to run some wideners and maybe even some pretty offset wheels on there. I plan on making a very similar rig, but using emaxx running gear, indi susp, etc. Mine wont be very scale looking.

Ok the cab finally got here & this is how it looks on the chassis so far, I think I need larger tires.

Default tires

Maybe some rock crushers they are 5.5 tall that would help but besides that it looks very cool and preforms well and looking foward to the finish project.

I think I will try some HPI grabbers just because I have a set so I only need to buy 2 more. But if I like the size or want a little bigger I will try the Crushers or Stompers but either way that will be $90 in tires

Ok I got the other tires on it & I think it is better. I have been working on too many projects at the same time but I hope to get the bed made in the next few days.
