Default What axles? 1:5 or 1:6 scale rig?

I'm planning on building a 1/5 or 1/6 scale rig, initial estimates for wheel base are 20 to 24 inches long and 16 to 20 inches wide. What axles are appropriate? I have some clod axles that I was hoping to use for now to be on the cheap but I don't know if they will be wide enough even with the extenders.

I have a cen genesis that I could use diffs from for axles but I don't have the means to make axle tubes like I've seen people make when using revo parts and I'd like the finished product to resemble scale axles rather than independent suspension.

Is there anyone on this forum that would be interested in making me some custom pieces?

Anyone have any leads on classic style truck bodies, 50's to 70's?

thats thing is cool! I think the axles are around 8 inches wide, the width with those fat tires is 16 inches and I bet they are 4 inches wide each. I need a 12 to 15 inch wide axle.
thanks for the input!

I will do a build thread when I start. Its a big endeavor for me as I've never done something this big. I've not done anything yet, I'm trying to find parts, I need to find a body, build a chassis and find axles too!

The Kyosho axles are right at 12" wide hex to hex in stock form. Perfect for a large scale build or a shaftie super. Custom width is SUPER easy. All 1:8 scale buggy stuff for internals, so they are super stout.

Running 2 long side shafts will put you a touch over 13" wide hex to hex.

Browse through the Kyosho Twin/Mad force section for help, tech and ideas.

thanks very much! what kind of power are they good for? I'm planning on running a 3 speed transmission from a cen genesis and a beefy motor to get some descent speed and low end power.

Once set up right, they'll handle allot of abuse. I ran allot of power through mine. The outrunner I was running was supposedly rated at 2 horsepower if the batteries could deliver. I beat on that truck hard for nearly 3 seasons with no troubles out of the axles. I set it up so the spur gear was a fuse, they are cheap and easy to repair. Those same axles are sitting out in the shop and ready to run if I decide to build another super.

The Kyosho axles are the beef cake axles of RC. Little hard to come by and a little different to work with comparing them to the most popular axles out there. I do believe you can throw just about anything you'll want to at them with little to no troubles.

I've been pieceing a set together. I was supper suprzed when ebay had lot of stock parts for the mad force axles. Also look at rc4wd they have a set of alum. housings, but alittle out of my $ amount. one good thing is that the axle hounings take all 1/8th scale bearings. so the axles if putting alot of power to you'll have good luck not granading brarings. with the spool in side I found that the cen diff lock works on taking the the center diff grars out, you'll have a super stout locker. i ALSO REPLACED the plastic diff housing with a alumm hoising out of my jammin 1/8th scale truggy. and the link here is a good place to start with making differnt width axles. even if you want to widen the axles a good start. and I would start by using the mad force axles super tuff, once you get all the good after market parts for them, can't go wrong with the axles, if your wanting a big scale shafty

another 2.2 twin force axle rig
