thanks guys.. @ reddevildemo... its lighter than even I expected, currently the cage alone weighs just under 2 lbs. I'm using 1/4" x .035" mild steel tubing to keep it light also the reason for actually needing all the triangulation I think when I get back into the shop I'll gather all the parts up and weight them also to get an estimated total weight. AND........... I added yet another 2.2 to the collection of crawlers and racers. I got the new Wraith, Poison Spyder Rock Racer ! |

Well I got a little bit done, ..long stinger fit but not tied to chassis yet ..light bar straightened up and tied together with a center tube ..forgot to braze the rear diagonals, rear bumper area, ..added the steering wheel mount I weighed the chassis alone now weighs 3lb 3oz I also weightd the electronics,..motor/ESC/servo/rec'vr and 2) 5k 2S lipo's at 2lb 15oz the axles, trans, diffs, CVD's driveshafts ..... I'm gonna guess 3lb when done idk ?? scale crap body and whatever another 1lb 8oz ? again a guess TOTAL 10 lbs does that sound right ? Last edited by gadge; 06-05-2013 at 06:36 AM. |

Looks like things are coming together. Are you going to tie the back of the light bar into the roof? What are you going to use for a steering wheel? I used a nascar keychain for mine. Anymore progress on the axles? |

I'm going to make the top light bar removeable with the least amount of hardware so I'm going to make brackets to side mount the bar in the top of what would be a vent window on older cars.. I'm making my own steering wheel, wanted to get the size just right theres a pic of it started somewhere,..... I look for it Would 4) 20watt 12 volt MR-16 hallogen lights be TOO OVERKILL ??? not much fabbing on axles yet, having problems deciding ( what else is new huh ? ) on what CVD's to use, I have Hellfire, size is pretty decent, they use a 8 mm shaft. Also REVO with only a 6mm output makes them questionable i.m.o. I even have a BN HD REVO CVD set made by RD Logic, titanium with even larger inner bearings than stock or I've been looking at HPI 5B just for the sheer size !! I have a BN HD REVO CVD set made by RD Logic, titanium with even larger inner bearings than stock HPI Baja 5B 5T Extended Arm CVD FLM90011 | eBay I have decided on a design but have no idea how to fab up a "3rd member" for the ford 9" center section that would look scale. I have it all drawn up to scale but stumped there. woild really like something like the RC4WG Black Widow but bigger I'm working on a ... remote mounted servo and Howe steering double ended ram. I figured out that a pull-pull set up could be mounted with tension on it to have 0 slop and also act as a servo saver.....more on that later dont yell but I'm thinking I really like the lok of Hellfire/ D8 style but also a modified Savage any C is gonna be no problem I can make them steel ot aluminum, hell even plastic. I know its a drag axle bracket set up but I like this shape VVV |

sorry folks, I got sidetracked when I injured my wrist, spent too much time online and now I'm building US1M sailboats from scratch.. I have a condition that makes me prone to obsessions and executive function issues, its great ! Occasionally I come to a point where I can't make decisions so I have to set a project aside and pick it up later. patience please, its summer time and my shop is in the basement. OK , what I'm stuck with..... debating........... first issue is... how much power? how fast? second is just how much scale stuff ??? the 1/6 engine I have is cast and pretty heavy. if I want to do an interior I want as much room for detailing as possible. SO, what do ya all think ?????? scale and screw speed, making full interior, exterior details or speed with a full body and hide as much as possible, minimum interior third is I can't decide on a paint scheme !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and forth.....the axles..... havent quite figured out how, what method to use to make the housing and the pinion support accurately. easiest is to just make a cover for a stock housing but the issue is how to put that together. So I might switch it around and make a Dana style housing.. with a diff cover !! that way I can remove the assembled diff complete I like the look of the Pro Rock 60's with the rotated cover but even that might be an issue :( sorry for the delay, any input is greatly appreciated |

I'm a fan of the scale stuff and I liked the direction you were going with it. The scale engine is cool so I'd use it. A brushless motor setup with gearing to about 15mph tops would be good. On the axles I would suggest the Vanquish Rock Jock Currie axles and make custom length tubes and shafts I'm a fan of the Ivan Stewart Toyota truck paint scheme As for the personal issues with obsessions, I think everyone on this site including myself on this site has that Last edited by 1tonscout; 07-17-2013 at 03:57 PM. |

thanks for the feedback and interest 1ton yea I'm liking the scale look of this rig. The engine "IF" I use it will be virtually unseen. and for that reason will prolly go. I'll use it in another rig where the engine is alot more visiible. the interior can be done completely to scale. Autometer guage bezels I already have and the rest is easy and even have some done. I found a real 5 point harness and a pattern to scale for aluminum Kirkey style seats my 2 old boats had yellow/orange/red fade paint jobs. kinda think its dated, or I'm just tired of it, LOL I just realized that my 72" catamaran would scale out to 36'... its scaled to be a 50' but could..... heres my ideas: 1) black and 2 grays.... with a zombie theme ?? could even do some splattering of red 2) olive drab, with military theme, flat black accesories and frame I have woodland cammo vinyl sheet also. thought about getting a digital cammo wrap... ??? idk 3) raw aluminum with a bright painted frame and axles I have a bunch of paints and powdercoat colors to choose from btw as for axles. I love the look of the Vanquish pro rock 60's but diff is TOO SMALL I'm using 5/8 axle tubes sleeved into 3/4 at the diff and knuckles. the axles and CVD's are 8mm also. and I want to stick with the 4.30:1 ratio D8 diff doing the sheet metal housing isn't a problen.. its just how to get the stock diff in n out and how to make pinion side "scale" |

I like this build. The body is everything in the end, as it shows the lines of the build. So go with that and you can't go wrong. On my race truck build I went with carbon fiber. That is a HD video camera mounted in the windshield. This is a 80 MPH 36'' long brushless build. Last edited by twissted; 10-21-2013 at 01:34 PM. |
