Had a good time. That trail was nice and sloppy on the way back. Thanks for the pics, they came out great!

How are those axles holding up to such a big tire/rig combo?

Just fine. In my opinion, wheelspeed/higher kv is what will break stuff. This vehicle simply doesn't have enough wheelspeed to break anything. It is a super torque monster with the 6/66 gearing, but that in itself won't break anything. If you punch it from a standstill in 2nd, it peels out 1/2 a rotation of the tire and thats really about it. It doesn't peel out in 1st. The weakest link on this truck is probably....axle pins or the shafts where the axle pins go. I will end up running 6s for the punch, but I will turn it down 40% to keep from getting too western. Right now, its too slow for driveway/street running but its perfect speed on a NM trail. I also have a wraith-like crawler on 40 series rok loks and I have never really broken anything. I am actually going to go to an 1800 kv motor and 4s on that rig with 8/66 gearing. I also think it depends on what your expectations are. I don't want to crack the body, so I don't need the "bashing in your driveway" speed. If, at top speed, I turn hard, I don't want it to roll. If it does, then its too fast. I haven't weighed this rig, but its not that heavy either. And if it does break anything these axial parts are easy and quick to replace. I have come to realize that i prefer to crawl slooooow. (spoiler alert) I have an FPV system that will go in this rig so slow snow running is another reason I built this. I have a built emaxx for bashing duty when I need the speed. (I am also building a highspeed onroad canyon roller) |

So I ended up shearing the output shaft in the ax2. Got it in a bind and gave it too much fuel. It snapped right where it is grooved for a snap ring. I bought the heavy duty shaft. This one doesn't have a groove. Everything else looks fine. I have gotten quite a bit of runtime with it and its pretty stout. I wanted to go ahead and add some leds. The stock leds suck and many lenses are not utitlized. I replaced every led. I have 40 leds on this rig in 4 colors: White, Yellow, Red, and Blue. I have a switch to turn off the blue rock lights as well. I had to learn how to wire leds. You gotta use a resistor of a certain value. There are many circuits on this rig. I used an array calculator from google. I have a few more ideas for this rig coming soon. |
