| Need Much Stiffer Springs for Trail Trekker Mod
I'm looking for much stronger springs for the shock assembly on my modified Trail Trekker. I extended the wheelbase by about 25 mm and that went fine, but the weight of the new body is collapsing the springs. I have seen that many people have used heavier bodies for their mods, so I imagine that the spring issue has come up before, and there must be a solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

First of all, VERY nice body. I've been using XMODS car or truck springs on my McRCs. The springs from both the Gen 1 car and Gen 2 truck will fit the McRC shocks and they offer a much stiffer spring than the McRC does (they also have softer springs if you want flex for another rig). You can occasionally find people selling old parts on Craigslist or Ebay. The other thing you can do is trim the ends and stretch the springs a bit. This will lower the ride height a touch, but will stiffen the springs. If all else fails, check out McMaster-Carr's website. They have all sorts of different springs and you should be able to find something that works. I found a spring small enough to fix the wheel of my JR transmitter, so they will have something to suit your needs. |

Thanks for your answers Beaters. I ordered a set of Hot Racing Shocks, which apparantly have 3 spring strengths. I read in another thread that they are considerably stiffer than the stock Losi springs. I'm not familiar with XMODS. Are you saying that theY are not available anymore except on the used market? Thanks again, Russ |

Yes, XMODS were made by Radio Shack about 8-10 years ago. They're 1/28 scale cars and are actually a lot of fun for the price (new there were $50 and used they're even cheaper). I don't have any Hot Racing shocks, so I can't tell you how they compare to stock, but they do have spring options and they look way cooler.

i have the hr shocks and i'm not real sure how much stiff the heavy ones are but i know the medium springs are about stockish, also if one spring isnt enough can stick some on the outside of the shock on the shaft just like stock shocks to make it compress less. but they are alot more ridged then stock and i like them

also you can use the micro t/dt/b rear springs as well on the shocks. On my main crawler I use the blue stiff in the rear and red medium in the front,

hey man lots of good ideas so far what about using two spring for one shock (not on top of each other) but put them side by side push them together. or you could add a bic pen spring in the shaft of the shock and put the stock spring over it. let me know if this helps im not the best at describing things.... |

I got my new suspension parts. I decided to use the HR internal spring shocks with the stiif blue Micro T spring on the outside of the shock. Here is the sagging model with the stock suspension Here are the new shocks compared to stock Here is how the model looks with the new suspension There is quite some difference. Thanks guys for all your help. This worked out great. Russ |
