No idea yet. It's still pretty wet right now, but it should work well as long as it doesn't crack. The stuff that IS dry on the board reminds me of sand stone. You can rub it between your fingers and it erodes quickly. I'm hoping I'm doing this right, but I only know as much as the threads I've read has showed me. I'll see in the morning what the first coat turned out like, but I'm doing 3 or 4 coats of this stuff (1/8"-3/16" thick). I don't see strength being a problem with 1/24th scale rigs. With the last few layers I may throw some more sand in the mix. Maybe something a little more like beach sand.

So, I checked it out this morning. The very first skim coat took REALLY well. As this is only grout mix I still need a few more coats. I've been searching around online and looking at what others have done, and this stuff makes up a good majority of the 2.2 class courses as well. Just to make it a little stronger I believe I may mix a little white glue and beach sand in with the mix. As with concrete, the strength comes from your aggregate. Course sand and glue should make it strong as a rock!

The first few skim coats looked good, but after that it all went to sh!t. I had been coating individual rocks, but the grout mix is so heavy it made the bottoms warp. Now I have rocks that teeter around on a flat floor, and fit perfect in the garbage can.

I haven't given up, I'm just gonna stop before I waste more grout mix. Next round, build a foam mountain, set it on a BIG table, cover with grout mix. The grout mix looks awesome as scale rocks, but it isn't any good for individual rocks.
