HOMELESS HOBBIES Micro Toyota FJ build ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Losi Micro Trail Trekker

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-O...0/Splashfj.jpg

Well here it is! My first micro and I'm finally getting it together w/ some help from a VERY skilled master RC craftsman that goes by the name of BONDONUTZ here on RCC

Plan so far is to mount the body and maybe do a bumper but beyond that is a mystery and will be sorted out as we go!

The body being used if a Toyota Fj 1:24 body from a Toyota promotional RC car set.. VERY VERY Scale looking complete with a steel rod roof rack!

More to come soon!

Hello and thanks for the "like"~

I really would have loved to used the stock wheels but the rear 2 wheels were molded into the real plastic axles and would have been too much work
to make them workable.

I'm planning on using the stock wheels for spares. one in the rack and one mounted to the rear.

I'm excited to see how it will turn out .. Never messed with a truck this small!

TheScaleAddict 12-08-2012 06:03 PM

Have you considered cut tone the stock wheel 'face' off and drilling the center, then gluing it into the trekker wheel? I've never done it, but I wouldn't think it to be too difficult. :)

Re: HOMELESS HOBBIES Micro Toyota FJ build ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Losi Micro Trail Tre

I've mounted odd tires by making the center hole correctly sized with a drill bit and then cutting a slit in the back for the bar through the stud. course you need to use a dable of glue to hold that in. but then it works perfect for aftermarket tires not intended for this!

This is going to be a wicked build!

spoo76 12-08-2012 07:38 PM

You could also glue/epoxy/JB weld a hex to the back of the wheel & drill out the center. Then you just need to deal with tires.

I think I'm going to do the Gear Head delrin wheels and put some time into the stock wheels after the new year. Thanks for all the great ideas!
the tires shouldn't really be an issue.. There is a lip on the back side on the wheel so that will make it easy.

It is indeed! That played a big role in my decision to use this particular body.. Cool factor is 100% and it's super sturdy , hopefully keeping the top somewhat scratch free!

TheScaleAddict 12-08-2012 09:04 PM

I've got a set of those en route for a review/write up on my blog. Can't wait to get em.

I wish someone made roof racks like that for this scale! O:

Hell I wish people made full sets of accessories for this scale without needing to purchase boxes of model cars just for parts. :lmao:

That thing looks almost stock it fits so well.

Re: HOMELESS HOBBIES Micro Toyota FJ build ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Losi Micro Trail Tre

I got some progress done yesterday but nothing today, had to work on wifeys car instead.

After extensive mock ups and measureing I trimmed the rear fender wheel a bit and it seems the wheel base is now perfect. Once I get it back to gether with tires mounted it will dictate weither more trimmimg will be needed, I ideally want to mount the body low as possible for scale realsim and COG purposes.
Stock mods consist of 180ing the trans and swapping motors wires for spin direction, I also made some finish panels for the sides of the chassis to keep the motor/trans hidden. For mounting the body I'm going to try small rare earth magnets that my friend "Big Fluffy" picked up for me. I will have more progress and pics tomorrow !

Still have a couple things to do yet and a little paint work befor it's 100% complete.
I removed all the unneeded screws and CA'd everything, the screws weight just short of 6 grams. I however prob added all that and more back on with the styrene, magnets and a few screws. Still have to fine tunes the F&R wheel wells, waiting till I get the new tires mounted.
I like the look without the plastic BL rings, looks clean and more factory/scale ?

Here's a short video showing the strenth of these little Rare Earth Magnets are from HaborFreight and Tool.

OK, Just finished the........... LED's !
The LED's have their own seperate plug that on the battery in of the ESC so they are not on all the time. A lot of work had to be done to make them fit in this tiny assed trucks headlight bezels. I also flat blacked the entire inside for a much cleaner look. Last thing is the tires which I might do tonight ?

Here's a very short video showing the LED's with the light low, they are running on the stock 220mah 4.8 NiMH so with a 2s pack they should mondo bright !

Haven't found it like that yet like talking about it! Plus there are not even a hand full of crawlers or scalers near me to get out and show off a lil. Have to drive 3+ hours or so to go where they do scale and crawl. I do have my personal test spot in my yard plus a nice duck off that is about a block from my house that I will start taking my flex shot pictures at!"thumbsup"
