Default Rock Racer build

Iv'e been messing around with some higher speed trucks and I really like the Rock racing theme. At first I thought it was kinda cheating to just floor it and fly over obstacles. Now I see the fun of it...and it is harder than I thought!

Here is the start of one of the latest rigs. It started life as a Walmart Rock Crawler that my kids used for a season and killed. At least the body survived!

Here it is without windows. Not sure if I will keep them out or install them permanently.

Next to a stretched Trekker. I plan on painting the hood cowl black as soon as the red paint is cured enough to tape off.

Anyways, just got it started. I think this one will get an 11.1 lipo and a big motor combo. I want to keep it as a rock racer not a rally truck. Gunna keep it low and powerful. Next up is the frame and and links.

sick that thing is going to be a beast! and wow thats lots of power! if you could get less tinted windows it would look the best in my personal opinion. maybe nets on the sides and a front windshield?

Very cool Dan I dig that body without the windows, and the Qlo's fit perfect!

I've been thinking of doing something bouncer style but with a body.. Are you going to run 4WS on this rig?

I think I like it without the windows too. Maybe I will try just a front one and nets on the sides. I have some screen material that will work nicely.

I think I will keep this one simple...no 4ws or dig. I think it will be enough to handle with the power

I agree that the body is a great fit. I have never run a rig with that big of body but it looks so right

Now I am just scared of how bad it will look once it gets scratched up...

Dan, that thing is BAAAAD! How about running the Sumo axles with a Losi trans and big motor setup? I'm almost done with my trail truck, building a Lincoln Navigator with a trail truck style for my girlfriend, and then I get to build my rock racer/hill climber. Finally get to see what the hype is with this stroker motor that's been sitting here for months...

I am bringing this one back to life. I didn't do any real "work" on it yet but I did decide on what is going in it. I also was PRODDED by my daughter to put some stickers on it so here it is...

Size: 50.8 KB

Name: side 2.jpg

Size: 51.9 KB

I cant decide on the roll cage in the bed or not...

It will sit on these rims, tires, and Redcat axles. Suspension will be lower links and piano wire upper links.

Name: chassis.jpg
Views: 2397
Size: 45.1 KB

The rear axle is a hybrid...I broke one of the Redcat axle stubs trying to make it steer better so I robbed the stubs from an old school Losi micro and used the rear lock out brackets. It all bolted right onto the Redcat axle!!!

Now the rear is narrower than the front. It fits the body shape perfectly!

Size: 41.9 KB

Notice the front is wider than the back

Name: frontrear.jpg
Views: 947
Size: 48.7 KB

It will have a full tube chassis inside but no real interior or windows. I will use a stroker, Spectrum receiver, and a Mamba Micro ESC...thus the need for 3 cell lipo!!!

I won't build much for a while as I am supposed to be spending time on "The Box Top Build Off!"

i like it.. .im looking at making a fast basher too.. using my blue body... that seems to be a home brew....
so {Suscribed}

you say stroker motor... how big and expectancies? I have your stroker 90t and it is slow.. but no worries as that is my crawler.. still not totally together.. hopefully tonight..
then tuning..

You can go as low as a 45t Stroker on a stock esc...but I will not warranty it. I have a rig that I wheel hard with that motor and it is a blast but the esc can heat up. I watch it closely.

As for this rig it is running the Redcat axles and will be super quick even with a 90t stroker. I will be experimenting on motor turns with these axles to see what I can recommend to people.

I ran mine around on my 80T Stroker at one point. It did really well. No real crawling capability, it wouldn't jump whole rock piles, but it drove REAL close to the Southern Rock Bouncers. You really do end up with just enough speed to bounce it up and over stuff. It would definitely take a different driving style to be consistent with it. I can't wait to see how yours does on 3s with the 90T.
