Default Yet another thread

Sorry about all the threads. I just got all my parts in from xmas and assembling it I've run into some questions, obviously. Anyway, I'm running a tekin br-1 with the current limiter on the lowest setting and I'm using the stock gears and an anarchy 19t. I'm not liking the speed, how do you pick your pinion and gears? Is it just trial and error? Are they standard sizes? I'm at a loss. I've tried searching this but most just say go smaller pinion and larger gear without any direction as to how to make an educated guess.

You're going to want to be around 10-12t on the pinion and around 58-60t on the spur. If you're looking for more wheel speed you'll want more teeth on the pinion or less teeth on the spur. The problem with going smaller on the spur is you will only be able to use pinions above a certain number...depends on the motor can size though. You should be able to use the stock 60t spur and change pinions.

Keep an eye on the motor for getting too hot...if you can't leave your finger/hand/whatever on it comfortably for a few seconds then it's too hot. If you're looking to run your rig for longer periods of time than a normal comp course (5 minutes or so) then you'll have to sacrifice wheel speed and help your motor stay cooler. If the motor gets too hot too soon you need to drop back down on the pinion size.

Most rigs I've read about and seen personally are running the stock spur and 10-12t pinions though

I'll probably go with a 10 tooth pinion then. I'm wanting a lower wheel speed. Is the pinion a standard bore size and width? I'm a little unsure of what info I need to order one.

I run a 10t pinion from an associated 18t:
ASC21152 Associated RC18T 10T Pinion Gear

And a Hot Racing 62t spur:
Losi Mini Rock Crawler, Aluminum 62T Spur Gear Hard Ano MRC862H

This combo is as low as I can gear-down to with a 370 motor...
Hope that helps...

Anybody know what the pitch of the pinion teeth is?

What about the shaft, standard size or not? My lhs only carries traxxas parts so I'm hoping I can find something there that will work.
