Default Massive project soon

Well im getting this from my brother as my nephew has killed it.
Wont go forward no more only reverse.

Im gonna need 4 Losi mini axles and not sure how to get all for powered yet lol.
And steering may be awkward too, but we will see when I get this monster 1:10 scale truck on friday nite after work.

Any ideas about setup guys?

your gonna need a LOT of mrc parts and axle halves haha!!! also looks like its a BIG job. the cab looks like you will need to cut the hell outta it to put an axle under there...hmmm.

good luck!! Ill watch this one and see where it goes!

This is going to be cool.
as far as the axles, you could go MOA on all of them. Losi motors are cheap, i just dont lnow how you would get 4 motors to work. Either that or mount the pinions facing up and then fab a gear box on each axle that would allow the torque to pass through the fabbed box into the next axle. Kind of like the reduction box on 2.5 ton axles.

I may have to get this thread moved as I have been advised that using tamiya truck axles may be the way to go as they are pass through.

They are TLTs and used in the 1:14 trucks.

but new they about £20-£30 a pop but I think well worth it.

Well im gonna use MRC axles.

That thing pivots just in front the wheels in front the tipper and only the front axle is powered by a motor from factory.

Now im thinking of locking this pivot and have BOTH front axles steer but all four axles live.

Thinking custom mount for axles using the 3/4 link mounts and touring car shocks so only about 1 inch travel up on the axles.

Will do a doodle soon to show what I mean, lol

thinking of using a flex drive from a screwdriver to join the rear axles to the motor which will be near the front.

hope that all makes sence?

i would leave it articulate, just put a standard motor/trans setup in the front half with front wheel steering, then another motor/trans in front of the front trailer axle, with a through shaft to the rear axle. a 1/10 esc like a sidewinder or mamba max with a y harness should be able to handle the load. looking forward to seeing what you come up with. i/m going to be following this one.

looking forward to seeing this. i agree with diesel mudder, that is the exact set up i see that would work and only need two motors and one extra axle to make the thru axle.

So you guys think one mini chassis up front, then behind the bendy bit another with a long link to the rear sets on axles?

For steering should I use the bend or lock it out and have both front sets of axles steer?

i think if you left it articulate, and lined up the driveline for the 2nd axle with the center pivot, the joint of the driveshaft would allow it to articualte freely, with only the front axle steering. if im understanding correctly it pivots between the front two axles? with the rear 3 being rigid to each other? whick could pose the problem of the 3 rigid axles just trying to push the front end straight even when turning... they seem to have put the pivot in a very awkward place. how did it steer originally? you could possibly make all axles rigid with a very strong servo forcing it to pivot left and right and steer that way. but that also wouldnt work well with locked axles. having the second axle steer would help to pull the rear end around and make it follow properly. in theory.

It does pivot between the front two axles but noly the very front is driven as a kids toy.
There is a small gearbox that turns the front.

I seriously think it be easier to lock the pivot out and have BOTH front axels steer obviously with a lesser angle on the second axles than the first.

Also the pivot is not very strong either alot of work to fit a new one in there, easier to lock out with an aluminium bar as need a custom chassis anyway

I also aim to make the tipper work, it does as a toy now but the motor is so bad it cannot even lift the tipper with a TV remote in it more than 5-8cm then it just clicks repeatedly :(

But im saving to buy two losi mini crawlers next year to start this as it is going to be fun taking this down trails

But also thinking of converting to a flat bed to carry my other losi mini, my "messed up" rig

i'm looking forward to watching the build. this is pretty unique. the length will make manuvering difficult, is why i would have tried to keep the tractor trailer design, but compromises have to be made. best of luck with it. really hope it goes smoothly for you.

Taking steps to get this going now.

Gonna get my CC01 back up and running so i can take my losi mini pro apart to use the axles, then buy another rig to get four axles.

then while this is going on I still got a CC01 to use.

Also gonna get some plasticard to make a mock up chassis before I get a steel or ally one made up.

Well a battery came i was going to use in my "messed up" rig but too big and almost as heavy as a ni-mh anyway.

So I got a 5000mAh 7.2v lipo for this rig.
Its a 25C rating.

Is it enough?

Im gonna build a custom solid aluminium chassis for this rig.

OK so it aint gonna be a decent crawler, but gonna be an awesome trail scaler.

The stock CC01 tyres look right but I fear will have poor grip.
I like the fast trax kong as on my CC01 and they grip really well too.

OK so excuse the crude drawings on MS paint.

The box is the transmission.
the black lines are the drive shafts.

I think this would be a good layout.

Your thoughts on the layout?

Also anyone got a stock losi chassis plan with sizes or even a cheap chassis side rail I can use as base to get the links right?

Need to custom make some very short links for the rear axels.

Got two axels soon to have another 4 then have all the bits to make the pass thru axel I need and two steering axles up front

But im moving to my girlfriends this weekend so things be on hold for a bit while I sort my stuff out.

On plus side I get my own room to build in

Cool looking project. What does the truck weigh now? It looks heavy or is it all plastic?

Its all plastic.

Only the very front axel is driven all the others are a steel rod with a wheel friction fitted to the ends.

So its mega light.

When im done it will not be light

Im hoping to make the tipper work too!
I have an aircraft radio with 5th channel for landing gear ;)

I have one set of axels hoping set two arrives soon then set 3 shortly then can start the mock ups

gonna use plasticard 3mm or 1.5mm steel until I get it right then have it made properly with ally i think, 2mm should do it
