went out and got a 2200 mah lipo from TRX yesterday, then today i figured out a way to keep this battery in its place!
old post mount from some other rig, and a body pin (which at a later date ill be using a small bolt, spring and nut in its place).

after re-reading some posts in this thread i realized i made a mistake regarding the spur i had ordered, so i cancelled it. Although the pinion set is still ordered im without a spur yet....

so, what part number is for that 70+ tooth spurgear to fit my slickrock?

the 70t spur i got is "TLR3978" but you're gonna need to drill the center to fit, it's not a standard MRC part.
also the spur cover won't fit over it either!

48pitch is VERY close to 0.5MOD and will work just fine.
In any case, the metal pinions you ordered are all 48pitch so that 70t 48pitch spur will work just fine.

thanks again dave!
another question i have now that i stumbled onto specs from the stock Tazer brushed ESC that this rig came with:

Motor limit: 370 motor 20T / 380 motor 22t

can i still use the rx-280 i ordered on the stock ESC, or do i need a new one now?? lol

The RX280 is a 270-280 size motor so if the tazer works with 380 size it's supposed to handle it just fine.
In any case the ESC will just shutdown for a bit if it's overloaded but should return to normal after having cooled down.
My Kulak (chinese copy of MRC) had a chinese ESC that never shut down with either the RX280 or my Titan380 that i swapped for a bit, if that can handle the load i wouldn't see why a Tazer wouldn't.

this is too much fun!
love this rig!

just wired in a CC BEC to the servo @ 6v (direct) and daayuum does that ever bring the servo to life haha!
pushing these heavier tires was taking a toll on the poor servo.

now i await a few parts:

Rx-280 motor
70t spur
9t pinion

eventually ill be upgrading the servo to the metal gear Spektrum low profile type.

you did remove the red wire from your Tazer ESC's receiver plug before using the BEC, right ?
because otherwise you're gonna burn your ESC in no time!

started on a custom chassis for this thing lastnight and came up with this so far.
im calling it the SRX18 for `SlickRock Xtreme 18th scale`.
Im thinking of using cladboard for the material.

Mate looking good, I just got myself one too arrived on Friday. I took out the ESC and smashed in a mini castle and bec I had laying around, I also got rid of the rtr springs and put some Losi mini blue ones off my Losi mini sect I had laying around, seems to have helped with torque twist a bit. I removed the battery tray and just slide the battery next to the gear box, its just a little 3s 850mah one. Futaba do a 11kg servo the same size as the spectrum on but I can't find where I put it otherwise I could give you the part number

ripped my rig completely apart tonight!
i have a new way of mounting it all up now, just fabbing the battery case for it.
The 2200MAH LiPo will now lay flat inside the chassis at a lower COG putting the weight at the rear axle.
The ESC and Rx will be on the skidplate next to the transmission and still allow for the on/off switch to be accessible.
All this not only keeps the COG real low, but also hides it even that much more!!

now im stoked to see this bitch go!
Still waiting for my Rx-280 motor, 70t spur and 9t pinion to jam on this tranny.
Lower 30degree links will arrive in the next week im hoping.

pics to follow when i get to that point.

thanks for the reply Teedy!
im also on the search for a low profile servo with metal gears and atleast 120 oz-in Tq.

more progress today:

here it is with the lipo tucked away in what used to be the stock location for a bigass nimh pack! This setup allows for my battery to sit much lower then previously bring the COG down much more. Electronics now installed next to tranny. Still need to clean up the wiring which is seen in pic and fab the battery mount up top.

speaking of servo, if you measure your actual servo and go there and enter the parameters you want, maybe you'll end up with something :
Advanced Servo Search

Mate where you have put your receiver is where I put the mini sidewinder. I stuck my receiver up under the bonnet, its looking good, have you though about using a bit of styrene to cover up the back? I was going to try and make up one that fits on the flat just to cover up the shocks and leave the top open to get the battery in and out.
They are a good looking rig though and are quite a bit of fun
