Picked up two. Brings back memories of when I raced desert. I run A123 battery and it's out of control. The only problem is when you race with about 5 to 10 people, you cant tell which truck is your. So for the only things we've broke are, nerfs and spur gears. I say just leave the truck along and run a differant battery pack.

well i stripped a spur gear out a minute ago

a little over half of it is stripped out. the part that is not stripped though has a lot of backlash in it. i am wondering if the mesh was way too loose from the factory.........

I did the same thing yesterday...

The only place I could find that same 86t spur was on ebay. I had some Kimbrough 87t spur that I made work

Are they regular ones or the new style?

cspyy, pm your addy and I'll send you one once I get mine in.

I just drilled out the center of a Kimbrough 87t to accept the bearing and then bolted up the friction pads.

You'll have to flip the pinion over to make it work but, it works...

Read this on Traxxas forums

"We've done a lot of battery testing in the Slash trucks over the last few days. Everything from $28 Radio Shack packs to 2s 6000mAh Maxamp LiPos. The verdict? In the dirt there is practically zero difference.

In the NiMh packs, the only difference found was runtime due to the mAh ratings. I ran back and forth alongside another box stock Slash with Radio Shack 3300's and it was side by side from start to top speed. I put in a 2s LiPo (120 amps constant, 20c) and it had a little bit more punch on asphalt, but the tire spin in the dirt erased any difference in performance.

On Friday I ran a spec class race with 4 others, one was running 2s LiPo, and everyone else had 6 cell NiMh. Down the front and back straights all five trucks ran equal.

Keep in mind that the XL-5 can only pull 60 amps max, and most packs will deliver above that, so the difference isn't going to be as effective. Of course if you're talking about going brushless that's a different story and battery performance becomes a real issue.

Not to derail the discussion, but I think it's worth noting if you're running with the XL-5."

So we should allow at least 2C Lipos. It would be nice to have some good runtimes.
