| Locked Up's SMT10
Some of you may already be following this in the SMT10 Facebook group... if you aren't you may want to join the group because we WILL be doing LURC giveaways for SMT10 parts. Anyway, we love RCC for ALL our build threads. So, I present to you our SMT10: If there had been a kit version, we would have gotten it but RTR will do. So, we have some plans for this thing. Not only will it be our test rig for some parts, but we ARE going to have some fun with it. The first thing we are going to do before we even drive it.... Stay tuned... Last edited by Locked Up; 11-04-2016 at 04:27 PM. |

Before we get to the dying though .... I have a "just a few" shots comparing the SMT10 to a Wheely King ... for those that were curious. Upon initial inspection, the tires are pretty close in size. The Axial are a hair larger and have a slightly rounder contact patch. Wheels are similar but the Axial wheels do appear to have more beef around the hex. So I know those of you with a WK may be asking if the Axial stuff will work .... it will. And that goes both ways: The track width is definitely different. And the Wheelbase is not even close. The chassis are very different. The WK motor is MUCH higher and the Axial has a lot more tube work to give it that scale look. More to come... Last edited by Locked Up; 10-17-2016 at 04:55 PM. |

Some of you have been wondering how this all compares to some of the larger RC4WD stuff. So we mocked up a Traxtor 2.6 Pulling Comp tire for you. Massive difference. They dwarf the SMT10 BKT and WK Mud Thrasher but he width is the real difference. Last edited by Locked Up; 11-05-2016 at 08:15 AM. |

And if you are thinking about putting that Grave Digger body on a WK (which we are) some modifications will be necessary. Last edited by Locked Up; 11-05-2016 at 08:15 AM. |

For our "build" we are planning a body change. I know it's an RTR but I still say build. The before picture... Step one is disassembly. We got a bunch of little baggies and marked where the screws came from. This makes reassembly MUCH easier. Last edited by Locked Up; 10-17-2016 at 05:08 PM. |

For the dye bath, we will be using RIT, a large galvanized tub and a BBQ pit. I'm kidding. No I'm not. Sure, we could boil water on the stove top and pour it in a bucket but then we have stuff all over the kitchen. And no matter how much black dye we spill out back, nobody cares. We added no specific amount of water and 2 boxes of dye. We never actually got it to a boil but it was steaming, so we figured that would be good enough. After about 30 minutes soaking there were a few spots that still looked green. Dam. looking back on the instructions we saw "For cotton add salt, for nylon add vinegar". Now, we know they mean fabric but went ahead and added vinegar anyway. And within about 10 minutes in the water/dye/vinegar we could see a difference. After about 2 hours (we like overkill) we removed them from the bath and brought them in to dry. Next up will be the reassembly! |

Nice comparison pictures!! Wasn't the WK a 1/12 scale?

I was unaware of that FB group so I sent a request. I do like the black chassis, but I also love the Grave Digger as-is. I think eventually I will have a second SMT10 with a black chassis. Or hopefully, they release the Son-Uva Digger with a blue chassis. It will be cool to see what you do to this truck. I sent you a PM. Thanks. |

It's funny because immediately after doing the chassis black, I got a great idea for a vehicle where the green chassis would be perfect. Moving along... Here is the pile of chassis after dye. I think it came out great! Assembly is easy if you labeled things, but even though I had things in bags I should have split up the sides a bit more. For those if you wondering what goes where in the sides of the chassis... Getting there... And wrapping up you can see the dye took really well. All done! |

Small update but I'll take it... Adding on some of our AR60 14 Bolt Diff covers. Process is simple so I'll just keep my mouth shut and post the pictures... Next step is painting the body I got for it, which is a "normal" truck body. I love the Grave Digger body but I just want something unique for this. |

Just waiting to find some time to paint the new body and vomit LURC stickers on it. |

| Re: Locked Up's SMT10 Nothing recent. I've been hampered with construction in the shop. The body I had went to Eric113 because I was taking too long and hate seeing stuff sit around. Once all the construction is done though I should be able to get something painted. Last edited by Locked Up; 06-15-2018 at 09:51 AM. |

Great thread! I'll be watching since I'm trying to decide if I want to build from scratch or get an RTR. If I'm lucky, maybe they'll release a kit version while I'm trying to decide (yeah right). -MP |

I have mine up and running, however the proline destroyer tyres do not fit the jconcept wheels. They glue bead it way too thick. Wasted 70bucks on wheels... But other then that I think it is freaking awesome. I think I am into the truck at $390aud for the complete roller. The scratch build was fun. Normally at the end of a scratch build I wish I'd just purchased the kit/rtr to begin with... , but this time I'm glad I didn't. Sent from my LG-H870DS using Tapatalk |
