I stayed up late yesterday to finish the remaining wheel halves. My plan was to stay up and put them together since I won't have time today...I was too tired though so they're still sitting on the table I'm going to use the centers I have for now. The new design doesn't change the dimensions so these will be fine for mockup until I can get the new centers made. |

I should have been field daying the house this morning, but I had to put these together after all. I wasn't paying attention to the direction, so I have one backwards from the others and somehow I managed to mount my front axle upside down. I should have made a wider table. This thing just about fits. With the wheels done for now, I'm going to focus on the chassis (I'm not using the one I have now) and fixtures for the table. |

I was messing around last week trying to figure out link lengths and locations, but it wasn't going so well. I felt like I was putting the cart before the horse, and I really wanted to locate these axles more firmly, so I made these this weekend. I still have to machine the bases that bolts everything down, but you get the idea. I wanted something cheap and quick to remove and put on so I went with zip strips. |

I finished these up today after work and bolted everything together. I think it's overkill but I'm glad I made them. They'll be fine for this build and they've given me ideas for changes I want to make. This is the wheelbase I'm building around...16". The 1-2-3 block is actually the height I want my lower links so I'm using it to get some ideas. |

Last night I pulled out the tools and material I'm going to need. I've had this 4130 for quite some time so it helps with the budget. I'll be using the Smith for most of this but may try tacking some of it with a TIG first. The vise at the far end of the table is holding the tube so I can cut it without it rotating. This vise is super handy to have around. It's great for filing joints. After one side is notched, I put it in the jaws loose and use a second piece of tubing to make sure the fishmouth is vertical. Then I can tighten down the jaws and flip it on its side. I just need to keep the file aligned with the jaws and both sides should be the same: A few more joints and I'll be done |

I'm not sure why it never dawned on me to use a tuning cutter to cut tubing...

I use my dividers a lot too. I use them all the time to measure eye-to-eye link lengths when I can't get calipers or a ruler into a tight spot. They're coming in handy for measuring this cab to determine the size of my cage.

I spent this week finishing up the new design for the wheels. I still want to get this part of the build right. The first thing to do was machine new centers: Then I made the hubs: This will do. Now I can get back to other things. |

OH for me!!!!! well Thank you shouldn't have LOL!!!! Them are totally awesome nicely thought out!!! the whole rig is keep up the brain power you got yourself a beautiful setup going there.. I don't suppose there anyway of getting you to knock out a few sets of them wheels is there ? I'm not looking for perfection as there for a mud truck I would like a set only a little narrower but I would suppose thied have to be touch pricey understandably o well nice thinking and workmanship my rc friend remember you got to get her muddy lol I geuss thats what I said about few I have done that get dusted every week lol

I don't want to sell to anyone without some testing though, so keep an eye on the Mega/Monster section here on RCC, and I'll announce a giveaway to members who own these tires and are able to test the wheels.

Spent yesterday working on my lower link locations. I'm going for a symmetrical setup so the links will be centered in the wheelbase. I've never built anything like this, and only recently became a fan of these trucks, so sorry for going about this in such a long, drawn out way but I'd rather not make this 15 times before getting it right. Lower links will be parallel to the ground to start with. They will also be parallel to each other but I will be able to turn them in a bit if I choose. I figured out what I want for link lengths and will turn those this week. I also wanted to get started on my cab. I have tubes cut, but I still wasn't sure where I wanted them mounted. This is quick and dirty but it worked great. Just a bit more bending and this thing is almost done Today's goal is working on the lower link mounts themselves so I can start on the main rails.

I made up the lower links today. 1/4" stainless threaded to 8-32 on the ends. I always tap the ends. And to tighten. |
