Default Building a Transmission

So I'm starting a monster truck build. I'm doing pretty well collecting parts, but having trouble deciding what to do transmission wise, hopefully something sweet will pop up soon but if it doesn't, what are the pros and cons of buying a wraith transmission($30ish on ebay) and throwing hd gears in(which ones hold up and which ones to stay away from? and ratio?) or since I need to get it all, starting with a aluminum(again, what's good, what's not?) case and adding gears and what ever else(?) I need? Or convince me of something else I should get? So far I'm using a strc izilla chassis, wraith axles, toro 120amp esc/speed passion 13.5 motor, and a fly sky 3 channel rx/tx....still looking for a good deal on a servo, but I know I need lots of torque, probably gonna end up running about 6inch tires.

Bang for the buck I'd do an HR case, stock steel outputs, hr gears, locked up slipper eliminator and a 4 bolt motor plate from supershafty.

I'm running that setup on my beater with legitimately stupid power and it's been solid.

CHEAP metal gears yes. Rcbros are fully available. The MT metal gears are way fawking heavy anyway.

how do you think id do cost wise building what you talked about vs the 80 for the hamburger. do these just mount to a wraith skid? or scx?

Either trans will mount in place of an axial trans. There is a plate with slotted holes that adapts the trans to the skid so it is adjustable fore & aft too. I've had both mounted to wraith and scx skids when we were nailing down the adapter.

I'm just trying to keep you MT weirdos out of the cool kids section.

But in reality if everyone posted where ever, what's the point of dedicated sections?

if I have wraith mip drive shafts, they will connect easy? and I assume I still need a motor mount or is that built in? sorry I'm kinda new to this whol building from scratch thing....and the rc thing in general but I'm pretty mechanical, and have done a bunch of upgrades to my scx10 and 1/16 e revo
