| SMT10 rear axle SSD? Please Help!!
I have a SMT10. I'm running a Mamba X w/slate 1406 2850kv motor. Not that it matters ,but I'm running a Holmes Hobbies 500oz servo. I have metal trans gears, MIP axles, and Jconcept Tributes w/ Renegades. I'm running 3s. First time out the rear ring and pinion lasted 2 minutes. I know I need heavy duty gears. I went through the same problem with my Yeti and never got it quite right. First is there any benefit to running a SSD center wide axle? If so which one Yeti or Wraith? I want a metal one. I see they have the injection molded SSD center axle. Anyone running that? Is it any good? What is my best option here guys. What are you guys using? Please help. I love this truck and I don't want another Yeti debacle. Tommy

I run the SSD diamond centered axles in a bunch of things. You want the Wraith length and make sure you get the HD axles. Other then that, HD gears and a quality locker such as Lockedup RC's and you'll be good.

I wouldnt run a locker....the monster trucks run open diffs...they tend to get less stable with locked diffs...

Locker in the rear will be ok. It also makes freestyle more fun. If Axial could make a diff that doesn't suck I would agree with you.

I used a locker in the rear of mine at first and all was fine until it got airborne and landed on the rr tire...it slammed to the ground and flipped a few times busting up my body pretty good. now with the open diff, when it does that, the other wheel just spins and it comes down much better with out flipping | |

Well I bought the SSD centered rear axle and I'm very happy so far. Another thing I upgraded was my steering servo to a Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster HV500 High Torque Brushless Servo (High Voltage) Digital, Metal Gear, Aluminum Case. I;ve been in RC many, many tears and this has to be at the top of servos I've used and I have tried them all.. Savox Is a very close in quality and reliability.. Sorry just wanted to share my experiences. |
