Default The Brass Dodge

Time for a scale RC build.

This is my inspiration and what I will be modelling off of

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454424

I am not going to follow mine to that perfectly but it will be similar.

Brass will be used to make this

It is a dodge ram model that never got finished, it will now live life in the most epic way possible.

I will make most of it out of brass

The tubes will be 1/8th in. rods bent into shape and soldiered together.

anything that needs "plates" will be made out of the sheet of brass.

The cab starting point

Mock up

This shows the size.

First step, make a tube bender:

Next, try it:

works good, will just use a little heat on the brass.

Now try out soldiering with brass:

works like a charm.

Now for starting the chassis.

I probably spent and hour to an hour and a half getting it square. It mostly is.

And now it next to the body

Some mock up shots

Now to make the first rear "hoop" that goes around the back.

First try was a fail

Got it the second time though

Now to soldier it in

After a little cleaning

And some mock up

Made a quick body mount up for mock up purposes.

Later on I'll fix it up better.

The start of what the rear cage will be

Some more bending and cutting

disregard the silly soldier

Then some short pieces.

If anyone was wondering, this is what I have been using to heat it up and soldier it all together. It works well.

mmmmm flame

Added some more straight pieces

now to work into the cab

Then some more

Then I took some time and cleaned up the retarded looking soldering joints.

This is my first time attempting something like this.

I did build my own axial crawler, but that is all sheet aluminum and bolts.

Looking good. Try some smaller diameter solder, it makes for a cleaner joint and less to clean up.

Yeah that would probably be a good idea.

Small update. Was able to get a little work done on this today.

Had to cut the back part of the body off so I can still slip it on and off

Don't worry I'll reattach it.

Took a little trial and error to get it right. This will work fine.

Then just added a straight piece across the front.

Still only about half way done with how I want to "tube" work to look like.

Bit more, I did some mock up on the front. Need to decide on how I want it. But first:

I did some more work of "inside" the body

Came out well enough.

Now to the mock up

I know for sure I am going to make a tiny winch and mount it on the front somehow. But I am unsure of how I want the front bumper to look and how I want to integrate it into the half of the cage.

The truck this is based off of does it like so:

Im not sure I want it like that.

I could do that or I could leave the headlights there and make them functional.

decisions.
