can i get some help with my new project, i'm trying a full tube crawler with a losi micro crawler drivetrain, im just wondering about the construction of the cage. would this build be doable with 1/8th in. hollow tubing. i am also looking for tips on soldering the tubing. i have designed this rig already, but i need to figure out the best materials for the job.

I would use solid styrene rod. Look at the monster truck posted in the Losi micro section. it should give you an idea of what I am talking about.

I used solid brass rod. Soldiering it together is very easy with brass.

I made a micro tuber out of brass a few months back. Try this for a little inspiration HTH's Micro Tuber |

This is what I came up with a year ago. I basically just copies the same angles the stock chassie had and used 3/32 brass tube to build the whole thing. I started with a propane torch and regular plumbing solder. Once you get the heat right it worked great but if you have an alright iron then you don't even need a torch. all the brass pannels were put on with the soldering iron. I used a drimmel with a stone cylinder to cope the ends of the tube so it fit pretty snug but not perfect. The thing has fallen 5feet plus multiple times on the rocks and not broke a thing. The only problem I have had is getting those shocks on and off (I have broken the ball mounts where they were soldered on to the frame). |
