Overdrive gears binding

I bought the hot racing overdrive gears for my jeep and everything spins fine with the diff cover off, but just holding the cover on it starts to bind. Everything looks like it has plenty of clearance when it's apart. It's the stock axle and diff cover. I've tried searching most everything I can think of but haven't been able to find anything helpful. What do you guys think?

And what rig is this? You posted in the micro scale rigs section but my guess is this is a 1/10 scale.

On Axials (and likely others) you need to attach the driveshaft for everything to work smoothly as it holds this gear in place. When its not attached the pinion can walk around and be pulled into the ring gear jamming it up, it will feel okay in one direction but not the other.

It's an scx24 jeep. It's the stock axle. And I was mistaken, the gears are from treal.

Binding when driving or manually turning the wheels? Worm gears bind if you try to rotate from the wheel. Try spinning from the spur gear or maybe driveshaft

It binds if I spin it from the output shaft, with the drive shaft hub attached. I put it all together last night and plugged a battery in and it would barely drive forward(about¾ throttle to make it go) and would not move in reverse. With the diff cover screwed on, I can feel the gears meshing. I tired it with the o rings on front and back of the worm gear, no o rings, 1 o ring, it didn't make a difference.

Make sure the nuts holding the wheels on arent too tight, that can bind up the drivetrain on these little guys.

I had to do a fair bit of polishing/deburring on my Treal gears to get them to run smoothly, they still took quite a bit of run time to free up. I chucked mine in a drill and polished them with Scotchbrite for a while and packed some grease in the diff.

Reviving an older thread . I used the cheaper Injora gears and the factory O rings . No binding issues at all . I actually used the 1/12T 33% underdrive gears front a rear for a slower crawl . Then I used a Power Hobby 15% front overdrive transmission . The front overdrive works well for climbing but I feel that it has an opposite effect when going down hill.

It shouldnt be that way, with the front pulling more and the rear dragging that only helps when descending. Your issue could be more down to the front to rear weight bias. If the rear is way lighter than the front it can lead the the rear coming up/rolling over on descents.

Had my rig on the scale at the RC shop last week . It weighs out at 57 front , 43 rear . I’m climbing 55 degree inclines , maybe I just need more practice going down them .

Plus it a SCX24 , worm gears = built in brake .
