That's nice that there's new rigs coming out so frequently by all these manufacturers. I'd like to see it next to Traxxas's 1/18 scale rig.

...ordered it this morning from Fair RC. What a rig - portals, metal gears, and the Flysky FS-MG41 radio with its awesome functions and awesome ESC (as in the FCX24). Super curious (thats why I ordered even if I know that it will be super expensive for me because of custom fees and shipping - would love to see all those rigs again at Banggood in time, but... ) Walter |

Walter that sounds great, I'll be looking forward to seeing what you say about it when it arrives. What color did you buy?

i'm 99% sure those are FCX axles, or maybe clones, if so this thing should be pretty good

I ordered a red one last night when I got the email from fairrc. The supposed improvements from the current cr18, the van body, and the fact it’s “different” convinced me. I might have hesitated if I had to choose between the cr18p and a trx4m but since I didn’t preorder the latter, I don’t think I’ll have the option to buy a silver defender for a while. |

Hi, Quote:
And I am sure those are different, only from the "look", but I will compare. However, the Van obviously is not based on the old Hobby Plus CR-18: Hobby Plus CR-18 width: 113 mm, wheelbase 155 mm Hobby Plus Roc Van width: 125.2 mm, wheelbase 159.7 mm Width seems similar to the FCX24, but wheelbase is much longer: FCX24 width: 125.7 mm, wheelbase 138.8 The portals are probably no FCX24 copies, see: This picture is strange, I assume, those are axle and portal gears, but why 7 pairs of the portal gears? If those are the portal gears (what else should they be? Way too many for central transmission), the small gear has 15 teeth: While the FCX24 portal gears look very different and the (finally released) small gear has 14 teeth (I, BTW, still did not change and drive 12t): I assume this is a totally new truck. Some parts will be similar to the other 1/18, as are in the FCX24 (4 mm balls for links for example, as used in CR-24, CR-18, RGT 1/24, FMS, RocHobby, EazyRC). I am looking forward to getting it soon. Finally a new truck we can buy and be curious, not as in all the last releases from FMS (Traxxas, Axial, WPL, ...) 10 Youtube videos out for promotion on release day, this is soooooooo super boring and always the same guys tell always the same stuff and customer who pay for their trucks get it weeks or (Europe) months later and then nobody is interested anymore in some "review videos"; same with SCX24 and other upgrade stuff (Furitek, etc.). Always the same guy(s) gets the stuff weeks before release, makes a video, and when "normal" customers finally can get the stuff, there seems to be already the "next new product" ("tire of the week"). This rather new way of promotion, started by Axial and Traxxas (?), now by FMS, WPL, Furitek, and several more companies, highly decreases my motivation to buy new stuff and of course my curiosity for new trucks and products. Since I can still not find any video about the new Hobby Plus Roc Van, they seem not have sent it to the "usual" Youtubers in advance. So I am still curious, finally a new truck. Still, shipping takes quite a bit of time to EU, ... longer than to US probably, however, finally a truck "new for everyone". Walter | |

just because they say its new, doesn't mean its new. you know how that goes. either way i'm interested to see. from comparing pictures they look like exact clones to me

| Re: Rock van 1/18 Indeed, they do. However, the Roc Van does have a frame mounted servo, no servo on axle, and therefore an additional ballhead screw on front axle for the panhard bar. The frame, however, does look very similar to a standard CR-18 frame (or Katana, Atlas 6x6), the on/off switch is different to the switch in the FCX24, shocks seem to be the bad "cheapo" CR-24/CR-18/Katana/Atlas shocks: If portal axles are the same as FCX24 portals, I wonder what those small gears are for? Those look totally different to FCX24 portal gears: Roc Van vs. FCX24 axles: We will know soon Walter Last edited by donaldsneffe; 11-17-2022 at 02:15 AM. |

Received mine today. Super nice. Unfortunately a bit of ESC-whining. But super good low speed modulation: First look (detailed look will come soon): https://youtu.be/RFfO1o0_79w Walter |
