What happens when someone shows a little late? Dennis (Firewiz) for example, gets off work at 8am and drives from Austin/Albert Lea area. Why not just use a persons name, or chosen number? That way if they were late, and not able to sign up on a sign up sheet, they'd still be in whatever running order they were chosen.

That first person:
  • Allows others to learn from that drivers mistakes saving the next competitors points.
  • Provides others with a clear redefined vision of the course.
It may not seem like much but the backups and wrong turns will add up over the series. At random the burden is spread more equally.

I'd start the day off according to the points in the series. (ex. 1st is 1st)

The runs that follow, either just let people go when they want or go down the list on the score sheet.

The number would really have nothing to do with a starting order.
It would basically be something like a poker chip with a persons #/name written on it. Then before the comp, with everyone around, 1 person would just draw chips from a hat to determine a starting order.
Then the odds would start 1 stage, and evens start on the 2nd stage. When you're done with your run on stage 1/2, you move to the end of the line for the next stage. This is basically how Jason had the Nationals set up, and it worked very well. The flow of the stages/comp was very smooth.

Default AHhhhhhhhhhh

You guys give me a headache. I could care less what order we are in. Random is good for me. So, we need to call dibs on a number? I want #2. And my vote is going in now. Thanks.

Man I was all confused, when someone said nascar numbers I thought numbers in series. That idea seems really the perfect way to go then to me.

I voted for "keep it the same as last year"...

Reasons:

1) Keeping the admin stuff simple (sheets made up night before, etc.) You guys running the comps (setting the courses, sign-ups, scoresheets, etc.) are doing a great job and anything to make the admin stuff simpler seems more than fair (since you guys would like to also think about your driving!)

2) Since there is a wide range of talent - from the veterens to the newbs (like me), pushing the (slight) disadvantage of starting 1st up on the better drivers will possilbly(???) help keep the better drivers within sight (scoring wise) of us newbs... If everyone was of similar talent, the random order thing would make more sense to me.

3) With a known starting order, the better drivers (those fighting for 1st) could work on some interesting strategies...

If we do any kind of number thing, I pick 88.

See you all this weekend (if it's not pouring rain...),

Don't you go jinx'n us with rain now! I am planning on driving the fj40 out there this weekend..... But if there is even a drop of rain, or the radar shows any threats of rain I will have to take the truck.

Default pick a number, almost any number

It's 6-12, Kodiakman of course doesn't count. But, unless we get some last day/minute voters, it looks as though random drawing is going to be the starting order.
Post up your number choices those of you who haven't yet, if you so choose to have a number? It's optional. We will also use first names, and RCC handles. From memory, I believe 2,3,4,6,13,88,00,71 & 72 have been called already.
Poll closes at 6pm tonight!!!!!

The poll is now closed.
Starting with tomorrows comp, we will be doing a random drawing for starting order for each of the 2 classes. There is a poker chip with each competitors name, and number if they choose One, written on it. The drawing will be run as follows. With the competitors there, One person, doesn't matter who, will draw chips and call them off outloud. We'll be running odd/even. First chip picked will be first up on stage 1, 2nd chip picked will be 1st up on stage 2, 3rd chip picked 2nd up on stage 1, and so on.
When your run is done on the stage you started on, you'll move to the end of the line for the next stage. This should give everyone a little time between runs, and also allow you to watch some runs prior to yours.
Judges should call out running order frequently to let competitors know about how much time they'll have before their run.
Good luck to everybody tomorrow

EDIT: Just a reminder guys. Like we talked about earlier. If the nitro guys sneak away before or after their mains, (there running not too far away) we will be interupting our random running order to accommodate them as best we can.
Hopefully everyones ok with this? We (MNRCRC) would like to do what we can do accommodate anyone when at all possible.
