Re: U4RC....KCRC Addition

looks cool so far !

just one thing about heat racing !
kind-a strange.

not to much racing if U use there system - over a true heat racing system

example:
say you have 12 entrees - broke down into 3 - 4 rig heats.
the top two heat winners qualify to the main & so on with the rest,
making a 8 rig main - with the 2 LCQ coming for the last race

the racing day will be over fairly fast & some drivers will be just running there rig only twice in a days race event.
seem like the race day will be kind-a short & not much driving time !!

if we use the off road racing system - 3 heats & mains - everyone will get a lot more driving/track time.

everyone runs in all the heat races - top 6 times go to the A main
run E - D - C & B mains first - with winners bumping up to the next main event
A main runs last - with 10 rig main

another thing BC !
better start thinking on how to keep tack of everything ?
don't think we can afford a high dollar transponder scoring system right now.
so back to having #'s on the rigs & hand counting.

i do have a RC scoring program from the past that will work - but with the off road racing type heats & main system & it can be used manually !

just some thoughts

PS
i have used the win & qualify for the main in the past !
one early win - your qualified for the a main,
the rest of the day you sit around & wait for the a main to start - not much racing fun

Re: U4RC....KCRC Addition

We also have computerized/manual timing software we can hook you guys up with. Prior to our new series, we had been running all cars in all heats and the mains more like the above. We just changed that this season to a true qualifying format due to car counts, and our championship points series at Glen Helen.

Re: U4RC....KCRC Addition

don't think are car counts will be that high for this year.

was just thinking on how everyone can get the most run time in one day !
personally i show up to race - more that 2 runs in one race day - hopefully.

when running 3 heats & mains it dose give everyone more wheel time,
& i know this system can be ran fast.
i ran the 3 heat/main system with well over 250 people before - all in one day !
automated scoring of course - no hand counting with that many entries

Re: U4RC....KCRC Addition

I agree. What I am saying is absolutely run your format. It's all about what the drivers at your track want. "thumbsup"

Those are great points Jerry....and absolutely why I want and trust your input "thumbsup" (you have the experience/I don't).

Yeah, I don't do well with the sitting around all day either. You guys know me....we stop on a trail run, i am usally the first to hit some stupid line off course just to keep the wheels turning ...or it could be my short attention span :).

I agree that this year, most likley, will have a low enough turnout that we may not even need heats/main per-see....time will tell.

Re: U4RC....KCRC Addition

Without wanting to dick around with timing systems, it seems like a win to qualify would be the best way to go. Ultra4 does the same thing, even if you already qualified you still race in the next races but the invite to the main just gets passed down. Seems like that would work best for us to keep it simple.

Plus I think we probably need to keep the races short (lap count) so that we don't need a fancy setup to keep track.

The course is AWESOME but I don't think that it will support 10 cars on the track. I think 6 is going to be great and even 8 will be pushing it. We will see though once we get a bunch of us out there to test! Looking forward to this weekend!

so well let U try to keep track of everything without using a scoring/race program "thumbsup"
good luck with that !!

once you qualify for the main,
you shouldn't be allowed back on the course until the mains !!

i can foresee trouble if a qualified driver is allowed back on the course,
with racers still trying to qualify !!

your going to have people saying & being mad !!

I could have done better if i hadn't got bumped - ground out - impeded by a driver who's already qualified or something like that !!
from the guy who is already main qualified !

Imo !

Have you watched the U4 videos? It's not like regular racing, there is bumping and what not. It's going to happen. Seems like keeping the whole racing mentality out of it would be way better. Go there to drive. Passing down qualifying spots would be easy to track without anything fancy, at our level any way.

Had a great time at the rock race!
Decent footage, a bit of jello from the quad,
but worth posting.

Very cool! "thumbsup"

Next time we need a high down shot (whole track type)....it's hard getting a good overall pic.

Re: U4RC....KCRC Addition

If you race a heat and qualify in the top spots in your heat, you have the option to race the next heat or you can sit the heat out, but they don't count you if you run. You just get driving time. For a lot of us that are front runners we sit out sometimes so that we don't brake the rig and have it ready for the main. Most of us run 2 to 3 class's so were racing all day. Our day of racing will last about 6 t 7 hr's

Re: U4RC....KCRC Addition

Yesterday was a blast and made me really think about how to build a truck. I know we plan on slowing the track down with more rock but the areas that do allow speed were really interesting. May step up the power choices in the 2.2 truck.

Can't wait to get the rig ready to test out there. Definitely going to add another dimension to truck building.

Track update:

Some may know or have heard, but we had a bit of a serious drainage issue going on with the track. Rick and I went down yesterday and took care of it. We scraped it completely down, moved and stacked the second rock hill area and got real lucky to have had 3 dump truck loads (freebies) of soil delivered and spread. We also had Brian roll the entire area with his "steam roller". Ended up expanding some...track area is now 100'x50'.

Drainage shouldn't be an issue now...however were gonna have do some rebuilding. Looking to get a date up to have a work day.
