| 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration!
First trail run completed last weekend. Me and a buddy who also built a 6x6 took our first trail with them and it resulted in a little film. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gOOfORHzs14 As always after first run there are small issues to adress! I have to get som new set screws for som of the driveshafts and loctite them. Also the steering servo needs to be changed, but this i already knew as it comes from some cheap rtr. Also the middle axles driveshaft has an weird angle when the axle travels up against the frame, it dosent cause problems but i just anoying the crap out of me! Other than that it just needs some new grease on certain point to be ready for next runt! |

That truck looks fantastic in the video LCW! The overall weathering is much better than just painting the top and leaving all the shiny aluminum bits underneath... It really looks scale, congrats again it serves as inspiration...

Thank you! Just wondering, as this is an english/Usa forum and i built a model off a russian truck, is it an eyesore? I have no russian sympathies, just a newfound interest in older russian vehicles. Thesame kind off interest people can have in ww2 for example. I am in no way finished with the Zil 157 but i have started another truck build an its also a Russian 60'es truck. It is a Maz 535 or a 537. And i think i will post it in this thread to keep it simple for myself. As Maz 535 has independent suspesion i started out with two touring chassis and monted them on a piece of aluminium. I want to be in the same scale as the zil (1:10) but i cant find tires with the correct diameter or thread so i will use the closest wich is 2,2 with 148mm dia and then the scale will be roughly 1:10,5 I will also try to make the wheelbase a bit longer than 1/10,5 to better match the Zil. It will be big! Roughly 85cm long! |

I think that the Truck looks great, Well Done. Only one thing i noticed. Paint your steering servo the same colour as the chassis or remove the sticker. Look forward to seeing the MAZ i'm working on a 537 at the moment too. regards neil |

The servo is a big pile off horse s#%#. Ordered a better replacement. Thats why i didnt bother painting it. Also the cover for the transfer case and one m3 nut in the front suspension needs paint! Cool that you also are working on a Maz, what scale and how are you building the cabin and engine hood. |

I have also probably found out the reason for why the rear suspension locks up sometimes, can be seen in the video. I baught two cheap topcad driveshafts from transfercase to axles located to the front and middle axle. They are made i steel and when you put torque thru them they lock up in lenght adjustment because they dont slide smooth enough due to por enginering. The plastic axial wb8 are a better working choice here and i should order a pair

Threw on my wraith wheels on the maz chassi project. Its about 50mm narrow! Heres some pictures for size comparison! Farthest away is my first body that was made litterally thrown togheter! It took me about 2-3 hours to completely cast up the body and never really was intended as a scale crawler but ended up that way. It isnt that good! You can bareley see wich truck it looks like! You learn as you go they say! This is roughly the size of an scx10. Next is the Zil 157. I chose to build all my trucks in the same scale to match eachother! |

Than you very much! But then i have to disapoint you and tell you that i scrapped it last week and donated the body to a friend! The reason was that i felt IT was a dead end. Bad and heavy chassi construction (the first i made) and because i want to eventually make a new more correct sow (Volvo tp21 sugga) and the first step to that is to get rid of the old one so i can miss it! Although it will have to flow alot of water under the bridge before i can start on it. I now have i closet to work out of, before i had only the citchen table. But i have to get that in order first and also the 8x8 build comes before a new sugga! |

You have a very cool build style, I like all your rigs. I love the steering mod you did for the remote I would love to be able to build a steering system for my 5 ton just like that. Can you post a little how to on your steering mod please.

All junk parts like i earlier. One fully functional traxxas tq3 and one broken hsp pistol sender and one 4 channel stick sender. Just sawed out the steering piece out of the hsp pistol sender and made a gearbox for it. If i would do this again i would take saw out the traxxas own steering piece with the potentiometer because i had to move it into the hsp hardware anyway. Right now i am having a bit of a puzzle with it because it is analog i have to gear down the servo from 90* to 45* to be able to use the full rotation of the steering wheel on the sender. The steering link on the truck must also be have the same swing in each direction for the steering wheel to have the same amount of turns both ways. This isnt something you notice on a normal radio but when you gear down 45* rotation to a total of 2.7 turns each direction it becomes noticable. Otherwise its just putting the shit together. Now that i know its possible i should make a more seriuos radio but im having a hard time finding the time fot it! The gearchanger i havent had the time to solder the wires on yet but it will controll the tamiya 3speed gearbox i will use. But thats untested right now. For this i used the analog stick radio. Tq3 has only a 2way switch from start and to adjust the servo center its easier to take a stick that moves the hole potentiometer physical than digital. Sorry for gramar and stalling explanations. English isnt my first language. |

Well LCW that is too bad that you disassembled the truck, it was really cool looking and unique. I'm sure you will come up with something else that will also be remarkable. Your truck did serve a purpose though, it inspired me to finally start my own 6x6 build, and like you I also like Russian machinery, so mine is a 1/8 KrAz-255B. I hope I can have it finished in a couple of months. |

Fun to be able to inspire some people to go on! The sugga will reapear ver2 some time! Was able to spend some time with the Maz project this weekend, some progress made, not much but at least something! Still a long way to go. It looks ridiculuos with 26mm touring tires on! |
